They will spend so much time and money setting up working groups to look into implementation processes and then more to mess up comparisons with private sector jobs etc.......... This will takes years to implement and they will still get it wrongand then probably end up scrapping it a few years down the line like 50% of the other 'Brilliant Money Saving Schemes' they think up, hence the massive waste of money. Of course this is just my cynical opinion, I may be wrong, it has happened once before I think :rotfl:
We even have the lapdog of a Finance Minister on our side this timewell until they pay him off again with another Corporation Tax Cut sweetener and he rubber stamps it.
I just hope if the good times return for the private sector and their wages start to rocket again ours will go up likewiseor Monkeys might fly out of my butt, as Wayne would say
I am trying, honest;) very trying according to my dear OH:rotfl:0 -

Under Regional Pay the public sector IT workforce will all require a rise, simples.
You haven't explained why???They also have a considerable NI workforce. Microsoft are much more than a software firm and it is the same people - otherwise why are they leaving us? Not exactly rocket science.
They don't really have a considerable workforce compared to the "big" IT players here (MYSE, Liberty, All State etc.) it’s a pretty small workforce in TQ.
Anyway I know plenty of others who work in IT. The wages aren't really that great (private sector) in Belfast.
If this brings the "average" public sector salary down (it is something like 9K more) to below the private sector then I'm all for it.
Plenty of IT and computer science graduates out there to more than make up for all those going to the massive Microsoft.
I’m not even getting into the fact those 2 anecdotal people could have moved for opportunity not for money. You can’t really compare NICS IT to one of the world’s largest IT companies for opportunity.0 -

They are either telling you porkies or they are working for small IT companies. The big players like Fujitsu, BT, Northgate etc are all paying £5k to £10k higher than the public sector. However job security is lower than in the public service.

This statement is so nonsensical; what you are stating is that the average private sector salary is less than the minimum wage!I’m not even getting into the fact those 2 anecdotal people could have moved for opportunity not for money.0 -

No they are not telling porkies. The ywork for the "big players" NYSE and Allstate. But it's obviously a small small, just like yours. IT wages really aren't that great in Belfast. This statement is so nonsensical; what you are stating is that the average private sector salary is less than the minimum wage!I said several, not 2, and of course they moved for opportunity, as well as money.
Still haven't heard any compelling evidence on how freezing public sector pay until it aligns with the private sector (that funds it) is going to "waste" money.
No evidence (apart from a few anecdotes) the average private sector IT job in Belfast is better paid than the public sector equivalent.
Anyway if public sector IT workers don’t like the regional pay proposals they can do what “several” of you colleagues did and move. That’s fine, let Microsoft pay for them. I don’t think that there are that many IT jobs available in the private sector in Belfast. At least not well paid.0 -

It depends on what you define as well paid, but there are currently a good number of IT jobs available in Belfast. I'm a software engineer, and changed jobs at the end of last year - I was pleasantly surprised at how many companies were hiring.0 -

I mean well paid in relation to the public - private pay differential. We have a significantly larger pay differential compared to other regions of the UK.
The median for the public sector is 29K compared to 22K for the private. I call 29K with all the public sector benefits to be well paid. A private sector position would need a much higher salary to cover the public sector benefits (pension etc.).

Before arguing around those stats, I'd like to see the source for them... Anyway, the public sector should be more stable than the private sector - the private sector had its fun with house prices and banks lending to anyone for anything, and look where that got them. Private sector gets boom and bust, public doesn't. No-one in the private sector complains about their slightly worse pension when they're rolling around in big bonuses...0

Well I'm closer to the private sector average than the Public sector average then
And that's despite being in a Degree qualified job with 20 years experienceand being only 1 of 2 specialists in my field in Norn Iron.

Yes that's right none of our 240,000 (30%+ of the total workforce) public sector workers got caught up in the housing boom buying up BTL. I mean no teachers or civil servants were tripping over each other to borrow vast amounts of money so they buy houses... No wait everyone got involved.
At the end of the day the private sector creates the wealth (and creates their bonus), this will be implemented because Sammy won't have a choice. The block grant will be reduced.
The differential in favour of the public sector has been about for a long time. Through boom and bust.
It’s all available on ONS or DETNI. Oh and the difference is £20,500 private v £29,000 public sector.0
