How about this, from a teachers body
More than a quarter of respondents said they had taken at least one day off because of stress in the previous 12 months.
More than one in ten called in sick for between two and five days during the same period, the poll of 1,000 teachers for Teachers TV found.
A similar poll in 2007, also commissioned by the TV channel, found that 13 per cent of teachers had taken sick leave due to stress.
and how does that compare to other professions?0 -
The ill health retirements in the public sector have been cut down massively in the last few years, as part of the last set of reforms 5 or so years back. As yes it was quite rife in the Police & Fire brigade.
Teaching, councils and civil service too.RENTING? Have you checked to see that your landlord has permission from their mortgage lender to rent the property? If not, you could be thrown out with very little notice.

Farmers claim to get stressed and they have a high suicide record.
Do these stressed teachers' have a high suicide record or a high number of sick pension claims?RENTING? Have you checked to see that your landlord has permission from their mortgage lender to rent the property? If not, you could be thrown out with very little notice.

Special case.
Farmers have access to firearms which is generally frowned upon in a teaching environment. They are also more socially isolated, thus any problems veer into selfharm territory before they can be noticed by others.

Maybe something to do with the areas they work in? My wifes been a teacher for 14 years. She has an auto immune disease but rarely takes off any sick even when she is clearly ill. There are times when I have said that she should not be going in but she has advised that any sickness is frowned upon and the teachers are rarely off sick. She only know one person who was signed off for stress and that was a TA who was eventually sacked.
Maybe individual schools and LEA's have to look at their own policies. I'm also not sure that the idea presented in this thread will have any effect on this anyway in the positive. If anything it will probably make these Teachers more stressed.0 -

Not to mention industrial plants - larger ones tend to have their own in-house fire service for quicker response to prevent incidents escalating out of hand whilst waiting for the fire service.
Taking that to extremes, every work place has someone with fire warden type responsibilities. We've even got fire extinguishers knocking about all over the place, but I dunno what for, we're told to sound the alarm and run away if there's a fire, as if you tackle it there's a risk [STRIKE]you might get hurt[/STRIKE] they might get sued
To be honest, I'm flannelling because i hadn't realised there are private fire services0
