Thanks farway - we'll be in this houseat least a couple of years yet so I'll look into getting a couple of large receptacles for them - there are a coulpe of good builders yards and general stores near here where I should eb able to get something big and sturdy enough :)
  • Are the bulbs/fruit trees from Lidl as good and prolific as the ones you get from garden centres? I don't want to buy the cheaper plants only to find they die (gardenership excepted!).

    Thanks,

    Di x

We bought their seeds last year which all gave a fantastic crop, the toms where a bit too good, I still have a load in the freezer! If this is anything to go by, they should be good.

DH is waiting with baited breath for the fruit trees :D

  • Thanks to OP, I got 4 blueberry plants this morning. They hadn't unpacked the trees yet, but I didn't bother to wait as I bought some last time they were this price and don't have room for any more.
  • OK, I have bought my fruit bushes this morning (blueberry x2 and raspberry x2). Now what? I have looked on the packaging for the instructions, but I am not 100% clear, so I have a couple of questions.

    1. It says to plant in the ground immediately if the ground is not frozen. Does that mean not frozen at the moment, or wait until the last frost has come?

    2. Can I plant these bushes in tubs, or do they need to be in the ground? We've just moved house and the garden is being sorted in very slow time, I am just about working out where the sun hits...

    Thanks for your help!

I'm not 100% sure about the blueberrys as I've never grown them but they should both be fine in tubs and fruit ok so long as the tubs are big enough

Be aware blueberries need acidic soil, so if your tap water is alkaline you will need to save rainwater to water them in tubs, and watch out for the compost, look for ericaceous compost [same as for heathers]

Quick post, I bought Lidl seed last year (here in France). They were good but you do usually get less than you would in a 'normal' packet. Fine if you only have a small garden so you don't have old seeds lying round.

The only 'problem' I had was one packet of onion seeds that I thought were yellow onions (were yellow on the picture) turned out to be red ,. no problem in the long run as I actually prefer red onions.

Not tried their flower seeds but will be doing that this year.
