I'm thinking the lion the witch and the wardrobe, she's got a cuddly lion, there are lots of witch outfits in the shops at the mo and I might be able to borrow a barbie wardrobe from someone.
Failing that a big cardboard box and she is the wardrobe?
I'd like to be more inventive but I haven't really got much time to sort it outMFW Start Sep 07 £79484, Now £587740 -
Lyra Belacqua and her daemon, from NrotherLights, aka The Golden Compass - all she needs is a coat with a furry edged hood, and a soft toy that could pass for an animal (the daemon takes the shape of an any animal of Lyra's choice)
A round sweetie tin could double as an alethiometer.

Her little brother could go as Roger, Lyra's friend - all he needs is trousers and a waistcoat - very similar to Oliver Twist.Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

I'm sorted, I actually read the letter from school which says she has to go as her favourite story character so that gives us slinki malinki or room on the broom.
The witch in room on the broom has a red top and a purple skirt, I have a red top and can dye an old dress purple, the other 'witchy' stuff (cape broomstick etc) should be easy enough at this time of year! Just need some yellow ribbon for the bow on her long ginger (blonde in our case, I'm not going that far)plait.MFW Start Sep 07 £79484, Now £587740 -
My daughter has a similar day coming up soon and wants to go as Sophie from the !!!!!! King Smith set of books in the same name, really simple to do - Grey sweatshirt with Sophie written on it, rolled up jeans, stripey socks and a pair of wellies! (oh, it also helps if you have a dd called Sophie too!!!)0

I haven't time to do it at the moment but this question comes up each year so do a search and you should find the old threads with other ideas although I'm guessing it depends on what is in "fashion" at the time, like lots of Harry Potters!0

My neice did this at her special needs school last year and went as Jessie from Toy Story, the easy part were the clothes - check shirt and jeans but the hat proved impossible to find all the usual shops didnt havve any so craftily my sis in law asked at the local hospital for a sick pan painted it black and white and put ribbon through to keep it on her head and she won first prize for being the most original.:j Was married 2nd october 2009 to the most wonderful man possible:j

Next week is Children's Book Week, so I guess they're dressing up for that rather than World Book Day.
Lots of great ideas so I know where to look when mine has to dress up:beer:0 -
our letter says it's bookstart week, that's the charity which gives book packs to children. We only get pirates or princesses though, and it's a safe bet that most 3 year olds already have an outfit at home
for world book day one year my sister borrowed some sets of saucepans from the early learning centre, in return for a photo, and sewed the handles onto my nephew's old clothes, so he went as the saucepan man from the magic faraway tree :T she didn't think before sewing them on though, and he found it very difficult to sit down with a saucepan on his bottom :eek:52% tight0 -
The easiest outfit I ever made for my daughter was The Little Princess ( Tony Ross - "I want my Potty" books) Adult white T shirt and a crown made from yellow card. It looked great!
Last year my son wore his Dad's Guinness T shirt with a couple of old CDs sewn on - Guinness Book of Records!0
