My Right PS3

Update on my PS3.
They returned my old 40gb fat PS3 saying they had repaired it. After plugging it in it broke again straight away. I emailed them to let them know and they have sent me a brand new 120gb slimline PS3.
I think this is an excellent example of customer service by Gamestation. Fair play to them for sorting this out when quite frankly they probably didn't have to.
Will definately be doing all my gaming shopping with them in future.0 -

I am having the issue with GAME right now. Loyal customer & spent a load of money with them over the yrs.
They're telling me that the 3yr thing will only apply. I don't see how they can do this. Perhaps someone more legally minded can help?
I bought the 60GB launch model on launch day March 2007. I didn't use my my machine for about 18 months when I was travelling, so all in all, I haven't had 5yrs usage!
Where do I stand? I paid £425 & would absolutely expect this to last until the next model comes out (PS4). Considering there is a manufacturing issue as a percentage of PS3's have this issue, then I must have some rights???!!
I know my contract is with GAME & NOT Sony, but I don't wanna spend another £110 from Sony for a machine that is only guaranteed for 3 months!!!

You've almost had it 6 years? Even under SOGA (which would be difficult to prove) you are only going to get back at most 10% of the value!

You got it in March 2007, 5 years (don't know how 5 years is relevant?) would be March 2012. The fact you were away is irrelevant, how do you prove that? And how do you prove it wasn't used while you were away?
You're not going to win that, time to bin it and move on.0 -
SOGA says that the product should last a reasonable amount of time. I would say 5 and a half years is not a reasonable length of time for a playstation 3. I would expect such a thing to last at least until the next iteration is released.
Hell i still have a Sega Megadrive that works perfectly fine now!!0 -

The remedy of partial refund after 5-6 years would not be worth the time and effort in pursuing it.Thinking critically since 1996....0 -

Does the SOGA mention up to 6 years (E&W) and up to 5 years (Scotland) as a reasonable 'time'?0 -

Don't be ridiculous. Over 5 and a half years is a more than reasonable length of time for an electronic product that only cost around £400.
The release date of a PS4 is irrelevant, as this date is unknown at the time of the PS3 being released. The lifespan of the product is not dictated by when an upgraded new model is released. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. no you have 6 years to bring your claim under SOGA to the retailer. The reasonable time is exactly that, the reasonable length of time you can expect the product concerned to last. so a £5 kettle probably won't last longer than a year but a £500 entertainment system you would expect to last significantly longer.
However I think somethingcorporate is probably right that the partial refund would probably be so small it wouldn't be worth your time.
But it's worth a try in my book. Look what happened to me, i got a free playstation out of it so you have nothing to lose having a go. You don't ask, you don't get!0
