    Hi, 8)

I am currently looking for a new mobile, I do have the youatwork through my employer. Unfortunately my home landline is with Telewest. Am I correct that this offer is only available to BT landline customers. Shame if it is :-[. What would be my best alternative option, apart from switching from Telewest to BT.

    Thanks

The phone is yours to keep from the moment it is delivered!

To check if it's unlocked just try another provider's SIM in it. If it recognises the SIM it's fine.

(You won't harm either the SIM or the phone trying this)

Now, if another SIM does not work, does this mean that after 12 month I have to stay with BT?

Also, I don't think the phone is my to "keep from the moment it is delivered" - I understand that I have to fulfill the 12 months contract?! - I probably cannot just cancel after 1 month and keep the phone??
  • If a SIM from another network doesn't work in the phone you can simply get it unlocked. It should cost around £10 or so online or on a market stall, possibly a bit more in a phone shop. I've even heard of some places doing it for as low as £5. Or if you're technically minded, with most mobiles you can do a search on the internet under unlocking and your phone model and find out how to do it yourself, though with some phones you'll need a data cable to do this and they usually cost around £10, so the same price as unlocking the phone anyway (though you could always borrow one if you can find someone who owns one).

As for owning the phone. From what I remember from the small print of my contract (with Orange), the phone was mine to keep even if I cancelled the contract. However there would be a 'get out fee' to be paid if I cancelled the contract early that is worked out on a pro rata basis dependent on how many months still left on your contract.

For Info:- Looks like this offer is running out ....CPW has pulled BT network from their site all together and E2 save has changed the phone to a Nokia 6100, not sure if this is such a good phone.

    Cheers

  • Hi Misha

The phone is yours (and your responsibilty) from day 1!

The airtime contract is a separate entity.

You can cancel the contract at any time - but you will have to pay the cancellation fee which is based only on your airtime contract's minimum period (eg. if you wanted out after 1 month you would be charged 11 months line rental)

The handset is always yours to keep (which is why they try and sell you insurance - if the phone was lost/stolen, you would still have to pay your contracted amount even if you weren't able to make use of the inclusive minutes through not having a handset)
  • Can I port a Vodafone number across to this deal ?

I ordered three days ago from CPW via Rpoints. An email requested proof of id by fax yesterday, sent midday. Called the CPW line in the late pm to seek info regarding delivery date, and was told the order under their quoted reference was in my wife's name rather than mine....thus BT had the wrong proof of id.

It seems that the email address was automatically linked to her name as a previous CPW customer and a system error had therefore deemed her to be the person placing the order.

All this would not have mattered very much if CPW had not pulled the offer, as I could have gone through the ordering process again. I eventually agreed to convert it to a phone account in her name (fortunately we're still married!) as this was the only way that they could still supply the phone.
