He took out a loan with RBOS a couple of years ago and when things were bad the payments were not made. Twice on the statements he was charged CHG UNPAID ITEM
S/O £66.00
RBS LOAN ARREARS £38
What I don't quite understand is does this amount relate to his account because the Standing Order wasn't paid or is it actually a charge relating to the loan i.e would they have added this charge to his loan rather than the bank account if his account wasn't with them?
Hope you understand my meaning.
Okay next question.
At the end when things got really bad the bank told him they would shut his account down a set it to default which he agreed with as neither of us really got what they meant and they dressed it up to be a good idea.
On his staement there was a listing
CHG TO DEFAULT NOTICE FEE.
Is this standard as he agreed or can we add this on to the charges we reclaim??
just bumping up as still no response0 -

Recently received my husbands 6 years worth of bank statements and to be fair to RBOS they were prompt with it.
We went through them and luckily the charges don't come to as much as we thought.
I'm not completely stupid but still quite confused so I have a couple of questions just to clarify.
Firstly I understand that standard overdraft charges etc cannot be claimed back and for the first few years on the account my husband never needed to use the overdraft although there was a monthly £5 fee.
In later statements, he went over his overdraft limit and so was charged £33 which by my calculation is a £28 excess overdraft fee +£5 standard. Most recently the standard charge went up to £6 so the monthly charges were increased to £34 (£28+£6standard fee).
The problem is that these charges are not listed on the statements as excess overdraft fees but as 'CHG TO 07MAR A/C 1*******' Which is how the standard £5 fee is listed in the first statements.
Are they going to fob this off as standard charges because they are not labelled as some kind of default??

i was wondering if anyone could help me - has anyone tried to claim from Royal Bank of Scotland? Could you please let me know how you got on...good or bad?? :-)
Thanks :-)
Got 6 years statements back from RBS within about 3 weeks. Sent back letter claiming £290 on 13 April. Had a reply on 19th April from Customer Relations Unit in Edinburgh containing 2 sentences "thank you for letter re.charges applied to your account. We are currently considering your claim and will respond asap."
Will give them a bit longer before moving on to next step !
Successfully claimed so far:
Co-op Credit card £75.00
Cap One £200 for O/H
Barclaycard: £108
RBS: £290
Cap One: £126
HSBC: £338.50 for daughter.0 -
I have sent the first letter to RBS and got a reply stating 'we are considering your claim and will respond to you asap', no response. 14 days later I sent the second letter threatening court. I received an identical letter to the first and again no further response. 14 days letter I used Moneyclaim on line to commence court action, the 14 days are up on monday and again I have received no response whatsoever. I am due to issue judgement on monday but concerned about the lack of response. Has anyone else experienced this and should I just continue through the court procedure as far as it takes ?0

I can see this happening to me. I think you should go ahead re. court claim, you've given them enough time. Good luck.

I am trying to claim back my unfair charges from the Royl Bank Of Scotland as my account was closed it has made things difficult but after some digging i finally found it. My girlfriend who worls for RBS told me that it was important to try and get your CIN number to help them find accounts that are dormant.
dunno if this information is of any use too anyone but it may hopefully help some people save time:
Royal Bank Of Scotland CMD (Credit Managment services) : 01952 206 223
Royal Bank Of Scotland Customer Relations : 0800 0155 035 < They supplied me with my CIN
Royal Bank Of Scotland Credit Managment services address:
CMS
Kendal Court
Ironmasters Way
Telford
Shropshire
TF3 4DT
When i called 0800 0155 035 and selected option one, it seems the RBS group have a department setup for reclaiming bank charges and they are issuing me my statements for free.
Hope it was ok for me to post this information and hope that it is of some use to other people.
Appoligies if its already available elsewhere on the site. I just dont find the site that easy to navigate.0 -
