  • Hello every one I have sent my bank Royal Bank of Scotland one of the template letters, they replied by saying that they have been told not to handle matters regarding reclaiming bank charges. So is this true are they only trying to scare me off. And if you do proceed witht the matter which is the most efficient way of reclaiming the courts or the ombudsman and a little advice on ways to do it thank you very much.
  • What the bank have done is to acknowledge your complaint, as that is what it is treated as, and when the final judgement of the OFT test case is dealt with, they will process everyone's claims in accordance with the final outcome.
I have not worked for NatWest Bank since February 2009

Many people have reclaimed with an overdraft and not had them recalled, ut it's never guaranteed.

I've merged your post with the RBS thread, so you can see others experiences.
  • Ok so just totted up the charges put on my account since april 2007 and they amount to £2294.00.

I am strugggling to pay my rent and other bills and its getting to the point of I either pay bills or eat.

I need to claim these charges back as soon as and wanted to know if I would be best going for a no win no fee solisitor or just do it myself?

Has anyone reclaimed by putting they are in financial hardship? If so how long does it take and is there a special letter for doing it this way?
  • I am just starting the reclaiming journey and will also put in for financial hardship. I have heard it can speed up the process applying this way-if it can be proved genuine. I was called today by a company called Credit Management System who told me they will do the whole reclaiming process for 49.99, money back if not successful. Has anyone heard of this company/used them? I would really like to know as I am really wary as it sounds too good to be true!!

Just a warning about claiming for Hardship with this bank - they have a condition that they will reduce your account to a basic account. Bit unfair really.
  • i sent a letter to rbs to which they didnt reply, i then handed one in at the branch to ensure they got it and it wasnt lost in the post - again they ignored it - what do i do now?

-edit this was last year btw so they've had plenty time to reply

You should send letters in Recorded Delivery so that you have proof of postage and a signature. They'll only deny it otherwise.

I need help with my predicament with RBS, who I abhor by the way. They owe me over a £1000 in charges dating back to 2003/4. Around that time when they were hitting me monthly with charges (up to £70 per month) and I'd just completed teacher training, was renting by myself and living on about £125 per month after I'd paid my rent and bills.
I was therefore in extreme financial hardship, partly caused by them I hasten to add.

Obviously, it's been a slow process recovering from this and getting my finances in order. I am now living fairly comfortably, although a legacy of their charges in some part is a personal loan with HSBC, for which I pay £376 per month and a personal loan with RBS themselves for which I pay £49 per month.

I suppose my question is, can a claim for financial hardship in retrospect?
