  • Update - RBS have contacted the council and RAC and claimed the payments off both which isnt what they were tasked to do. They were supposed to obtain evidence that paying them 3 days early was the wrong thing to do and refund my charges because punishing me for their mis-management would be wrong - wouldn't it? So now I'm in arrears with my council tax - can they get NOTHING right. Oh and Egg call me every day now - demanding a payment I've already given them - nice.

if I havent been naughty or stupid and its the bigger boys that should be sitting on the naughty step - then I should get a sweetie for being punished shouldn't I?

    Hi,
I really hope somebody can help.... Im a single mum and dont work yet as my kids are not in school yet. My ex husband left me with a massive overdraft (the account in my name is £1990 OD) and I only use this account to pay my rent, so there is money going in (and out) every month. I also try to pay something off the OD every month, although I dont have much money tbh.
I use my Savings Account (both accounts are with RBS) to pay my bills and have never ever been overdrawn and have no OD facility as have never needed it. Until.... this bank hoilday my child benefit was paid in late because of the bank holiday, and my gas and electric (2 companies as have just swaped suppliers!!) tried to take payments a day early, because of the bank holiday, as the child benefit was not in yet, i didnt have enough funds to pay my DDs.
    So RBS charged me £114.
    !!! !!!
I rang and explained Im a single mum, have never been OD and really really need that money back (its my sons birthday in 2 weeks and if they dont pay up I cant buy him a present or pay for his party!)
The manager said she understood and would have to go regional to get a decision on whether I could have any of the money back?!
Im supposed to ring tomorrow for the decision.

Please please someone help I really dont know what to do!!
    Thanks x

You've done the correct thing and when you ring tomorrow just reiterate what you have said regarding the bank holiday and if its a "first offence" they should take this into account and allow some leeway.

  • Hi This is my first post and just wanted to let all know that RBS are capable of making quite serious mistakes in their interest calculations. My husband had a judgement issued against him for a drawdown business loan/overdraft(customer for 15 years standing, usually with large credit balances) . The demand rose to £30,000 from an O/D balance of £12,000 -all bank charges, compound interest etc. The balance owing was rising at 30% a day(Read on!)-. Despite requesting a breakdown of all these charges from their solicitors and from Credit Management no one could/would provide the paperwork. We had to settle. Having summoned up the energy and courage to battle with RBS a few months ago as I was still concerned about the total amount and did not get anywhere with Customer service . I wrote to the chairman whose office ' promised a full investigation'. Needless to say they wrote back saying a charge over our house might be a good idea and had clearly not investigated at all. I was furious and only when I pushed and pushed did at least one hardworking guy at RBS discover that they had miscalculated interest by £5,000.00. Yes, five thousand pounds which is appalling in itself but to actually take it to court as well beggars belief and it has made everything very difficult. So a £5,000 error, £12,000 bank charges. We have had to now involve a solicitor, more money we don't have and are really struggling! (We have reduced the debt to £12,000 now through onerous monthly payments)) )Needless to say no apology even though they actually would have had an extra 5K from us. If anyone else has had this threat re a cahrge over your house) from RBS or similar situation I would be pleased to hear from you. Am thinking of getting a regulated co to claim these charges back as it is quite complicated. Any thoughts on this. Thanks

    Heres my RBS story:
I originally claimed back £150 last year which was sucessful but when I went to withdraw my reclaimed funds from my account I was shocked to discover £80 in charges had been taken out when my charges had only been £10 usually. My account had been changed from a basic account to an R21 account without my permission or knowledge I queried this with a branch employee who was very rude to me saying they didnt need my permission and that if I didn't like it I could close the account which I did. So I then tried to claim back my £80 but it was put on hold unless a person is considered to be in financial hardship, I am and fit the banks criterea. How did they worm their way out of paying me until the lengthy court case is over? They said that by closing my account I can not be considered as being in financial hardship. Is there anything else I can do to get my money more quickly?

rbs has made a payment as a gesture of goodwill for the full amount of the charges, but didnt say it was repayment of charges. I know its cheeky but, with the new ruleing, can I claim the actual charges back???

There is no ruling at the moment.

What they paid you was in respect of your claim. You cannot make another claim for the same charges.

Take it to the Financial Ombudsman, this is a complaint against the bank.
  • Hi All,

Thought I would add my two pence worth on these conniving so-n-so's.

Had been a customer of RBS for 5 years, constantly in credit, started a business and everything was going swimmingly. However, in the first 6 months I had 3 different business managers - not ONE of them knew about the industry my company was operating in.
4 years later and here's the situation:
Solicitors are now involved in the winding up of my company. RBS business overdraft was £3k when I signed for it, they increased it to £11k and refused to reduce it. I cancelled direct debits and had receipts to prove it, yet the direct debits STILL went out. Situation now with the overdraft is current balance outstanding of £17000 charged at £1k interest PER MONTH!
They have since sent letters regarding personal accounts: a personal loan which I haven't defaulted on at all in the 4 years I have had it and a joint account me and OH had and were not allowed to close it because it was "required to service the loan."

So now they are lumping personal circumstances in with business circumstances. They asked for the full £7.5k outstanding on my loan back to which I refused and said I will stick to my end of the loan agreement and continue paying the £223 a month I have paid for the past 4 years - ironically now they will let me use my new bank for the direct debit!

As it stands, my solicitor is STILL waiting for copies of all bank statements dating back to when the business was started. RBS continue to send letters to me regarding the business and have harassed me to the extent where my health is now suffering. My solicitor is not only pursuing a claim under the harassment act, but also the office of fair trading seeing as the bank (as it now transpires) has broken the law by allowing a company to trade whilst insolvent.

So...it's nice to know I'm not alone in my scathing hatred of all things RBS.
See you all on the other side!
    Good luck!
;)I am not a complete idiot - some parts are missing;)
