    I thought it was already unlocked (been using on Virgin) but I have since given it to a friend who says it won't work on Vodafone. Is this usual?

    the message on phone now reads 'cannot undo resriction' does that mean i cant unlock it?

    Yes that means somebody has put the wrong code in more than 3 times so the only solution is to take to a car boot/unlocking shop who will charge £5 to do it via cable and software
