Oooh I'm so excited! My new tube of Skin 79 hot pink arrived along with some Holika Holika clearing! I tried Sing-Sing-Girl on ebay this time, I can confidently say that the Skin79 is genuine. I can't comment on the holika holika as I don't have a confirmed genuine product to compare to, but it looks as it should etc, matches reviews I have seen.

I will post a comparison most likely on tuesday to add to the BB knowledge bank we are creating here ;)

Initial impressions of the Holika Holika are good, less grey/more yellow than skin79 but still very light. Nice consistency, delicate fragrance, blends well but seemed slightly "drier" than skin79. But that was literally a very quick test when I got home and tore open the package in excitement!!

I also got three samples with it, including VIP Gold, Oriental Gold Plus and a Missha signature one. Really pleased as they are all ones that I havent had samples of yet!

    Heres a quick pic

I received a sample of Loreal Magic BB cream in the post over the weekend I tried it last night and while its not a full on bb cream like the Asian ones, coverage was good and it gave a soft matte finish, it felt very light on too, I quite liked it but wouldnt buy it as I have my Skin79, comes in two colours light and medium, the medium was very dark on me and I'm quite tanned atm, goes on white then adjusts to your skin colour, spf 15 I think, might be worth trying if you dont fancy waiting for an Asian one:)

I've got the hang of my Skin79 Orange now, you need a light moisturiser underneath to help it spread, this morning I added a touch of mouse bronzer to it as I am tanned and just looked too pale in the face, this has worked very well, really love this product its so flexible and half a pump covers my whole face and I like a bit of coverage;)

  • I received some samples of the new Maybelline BB cream in light.

Gives a fresh faced look & very light on the skin. Easy to apply & blend.

I really like this product & if I can't find a suitable asian BB cream, then I am going to go with this one.

I've finally managed to take some swatches. I had some Maybelline Dream Fresh BB in the post yesterday so thought I'd include it as a reference point. The pictures were taken in overcast daylight (sat next to a window). My skin is combination, sometimes acne prone and very pale, I'm a redhead!
I've not done this before so sorry if its all bit messy. Hope its of use to someone though!

I've swatched them in order of colour.
Left to right: Maybelline Dream Fresh BB in "Light", Holika Holika Clearing Petit BB, Skin79 Hot Pink Super + BB.

    Partially Blended

As you can see they have all blended in pretty well, although I may have blended a little TOO much as when I tried to Maybelline on my face it showed a definate orange glow :o However, it was lighter than I thought it would be and much less orange than the Garnier BB I first tried a while back.
    My thoughts:
    Maybelline - around £7 for 30ml tube
Too orange for me, and even without the colour mismatch the texture when applied to my facial skin makes it obvious you are wearing makeup. Some might like this, personally I don't. It felt heavier on my skin than the others. I liked the way it was a slightly more liquidy texture than the others as it was very easy to spread over the skin. Another positive is that its available easily in the UK! The fragrance was also very light, hardly noticeable but pleasant. The SPF of 30 is good for daily wear. However, I felt that this BB highlighted dry patches and had only light-medium coverage on discoloured skin etc. I tried it on my face and it felt kinda itchy so took it off quickly. I'm sure this suits some very well, but not me:p

Holika Holika Clearing - Around £5 for 30ml tube
I really liked the colour of this, a very close match for me once carefully blended. It has a slightly powdery finish but does not feel dry on the skin. Equally, it doesn't feel nourishing - it just feels light! Coverage is at the full end of medium, I have a small dark brown pinprick of discolouration above my lip and it covers this perfectly with just one layer. I had a spot on my jaw when I first got this, patting on a little extra made it pretty much disappear! Like the maybelline, this has SPF of 30. I like the tube it comes in, the packaging is cute and also compact! The bad points were that I found my skin looked a little oily after about 4 hours, it is a little harder to blend than Skin79 and also only the name of the product is in English ...not suprising, as its a korean product, but some people might be put off by not being able to read the ingredient list.

Skin 79 Hot Pink - Around £7.50 for 40g pump tube
LOVE this BB! Since first using it in April/May, my skin has never looked better, it really nourishes and balances it out and it seems to fit my skin chemistry perfectly. It might not be the same for everyone though. Coverage is medium, but it looks so natural as if I am not wearing any makeup at all. The texture of the cream is gel-like and spreads across skin so smoothly. I wear this everyday, previously I would only wear skin makeup on special occassions but this stuff is too good not to use all the time! It doesn't cover blemishes, but blurs them so they aren't really noticeable. It has quite a strong floral fragrance, I like it but others don't. It feels very light on the skin, and oxidises to my exact skin tone quickly. The only bad things I can think of are 1) Its not available on the high street 2) The bottle is too chunky to fit in a small handbag 3) SPF is only 25, I like 30+ ideally.

I really want to try a good Korean BB cream, (I've had my eye on skin79 hot pink for a while now) but I don't feel comfortable using one that contains the skin lightener arbutin. Does anyone know of one suitable for oily/combination skin without this ingredient?

http://www.cosdna.com/eng/cosmetic_c95a71490.html According to this, it looks like Holika Holika Clearing doesn't contain Arbutin. Its also suitable for combination skin. There are others, I'm sure I read an article about it but can't find it:o Sorry. Arbutin is sold to girls as a big positive in Korea, so if the packaging raves about it being "lightening" "brightening" or "whitening" then it probably contains arbutin. If a product you see doesn't mention any of those things, do a quick google check for ingredients but it should be ok!

For Skin79, check here http://www.skin79northamerica.com/now-skin79/which-bb-is-best-for-me and it says which ones are whitening and which aren't!

OOh thank you, that link was a great help. I really I like the look of the skin79 dreamgirls bb cream so I might order one of those tomorrow. :j

Just received my Holika Holika Clearing BB cream from Sing-Sing-Girl along with two free samples :) First impressions are really good. My skin was pretty clear a few days ago but now I have redness, dry skin on my cheeks, a huge spot and worst of all two massive bruises along my jawline after a fall.

This BB cream did a decent job of covering everything. I didn't apply moisturiser first but it hid the dry patches on my cheeks fine. The spot is a lot less noticeable (I'm sure it would cover smaller ones no problem) and it's evened out my skin tone. Most shockingly of all, it has made the bruises look a lot less obvious. Not an easy feat considering one has turned a delightful shade of purple and black.

Colour-wise it came out a pale beige and blended very well with my practically translucent skin (this did take some time though as it's very thick, so not the easiest cream to rub in). I didn't feel I needed any extra coverage or powder afterwards either as it had a nice matte finish. I haven't felt the least bit itchy either which is a huge plus for me as I tend to react to everything.
