peony40 well done honey, its sometimes so easy to spend when your sitting at home by the computer isn't it I try not to go near Am56on as its very tempting especially with books. I popped into the library this morning and ordered the new Stuart Macbride book ,OK so I am 21st on a waiting list but the chap said the system had 17 copies so it won't be that long to wait .I love his books and he only publishes a new one every January. His detective Logan is a real anti-hero
:):)
I came home from youngest DD with tonight's dinner She had a large lump of beef, and as DGS Ben has gone back to Uni on Saturday afternoon, less to feed. She gave me a plate with some slices of roast beef and some left over roast spuds and vegatables One reheated in the microwave tonight with some gravy, more than enough for my dinner
She still had lots left at her house for another meal for the family of shep's pie during the week. She is a good little lass and she knows I hate waste of any kind.
Tomorrow is quiz night at the local pub, so dinner will come in with the price of my ticket. £2.00 is very good for my night out:):)including my dinner.
Lunch today is HM leek and tattie soup from the fridge so I really won't be cooking as such until Wednesday night.
I have my DGD Holly coming to dinner and I shall make lasagne, as its one of her favourites and I'll make a big enough one that left-overs will be frozen for another day. I have plenty of the makings for lasagne in the freezer so I have no need to shop this week, although I may just buy some garlic bread to go with the pasta for Wednesday.
I slow cooked a piece of gammon yesterday and will slice it up today and portion it up freeze for later.
Eldest DD came to brunch yesterday, and gave me a fiver that she forgot she owed me since before Christmas. I too had forgotten it, I had picked up some cleaning for her.She insisted I take it so this week I am a fiver up already. If its not spent by Friday it will go into the holiday pot:):) Every little helps .
She also told me that her OH is going to re-organize their sitting room and said he will 'clean ' their home PC and I can have it to replace my one which is getting more than a bit ancient . They all have lap-tops at their house ,but I prefer a decktop one.
My Outlook Express is 2003 !!! and I'm still running windows XP.So hopefully I will get their one which is far more modern than mine:):)
This week I shall concentrate on sorting out my store cupboards a bit. I have a feeling I have some desserts in there one of which will do for Wednesday nights pudding I think.
Keep up the good work chums, and keep out of the shops:):)
Have a great frugal week everyone

Food spent has just leapt up by a pound as I whizzed into the local co-op and bought a packet of two garlic breads on special offer for £1.00.One will get used today when my friend comes to lunch and the other tomorrow night with DGD's lasagne for dinner
:):).so total so far this month is £2.69.The rest of my food is coming from stocks in the cupboard or fridge freezer

Hello everybody,
I have lurked for a long time on this thread, thinking that I would never be in the position of doing a full week's Fiscal Fast, mainly because of family constraints, but the opportunity has presented itself, with DS going away for a week from Monday. As he is the one for whom I buy extra bits and pieces (DH and I are fairly simple eaters), I would like to take this chance.
It means moving my hairdresser appointment to the following week (it is prepaid but it sort of defeats the purpose!) but there are two expenses that I cannot skip: one is the weekly wages to the builder who is doing up our ground floor rooms, I cannot not pay him, and any materials needed that he buys. And the second one is my herbal clinic appointment, as it is difficult to get an appointment with such short notice as it is a student clinic. I will try but not sure I can move it. I neede it for my health issues and this is really not negotiable.
Would these two expenses invalidate the whole thing?
Also, how much in advance do you prepare for something like this, I don't mean stocking up to the gills, but would it be ok to buy at least veg, eggs and fruit to see us through the week?
Are there rules that people follow or does anyone make their own rules?
I shall be grateful for help and suggestions. Thank you. Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -

Morning all.
I spent a little on food on Saturday and a little more on Sunday, just the necessaries and also things which I had vouchers for, with only another week to go. Managed to buy some stuff which was on YS and which was further reduced by the voucher, go me. Plus found £1 on the pavement on the way home, which I have added to the housekeeping fund.
Off to work today, dropping in on one friend on way home and having another around for a cuppa and a chat (and YS scones).Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

almost fell by the wayside yesterday .In chatting to DD I told her that W'rose had a decent sale on and I may drive over for a look. She immediatly told me
'Mum you don't need anymore stuff ,you are eating from your cupboards this month '
Thanks Shelleyyou reminded me just in time .Its so easy just to think 'I'll just have a shufti' and before you know it you've bought even more stuff for the stores.
Today I am making inroads into my lentil mountain and will make a huge vat of spicy lentil soup for this weeks lunches (that should keep the cold away at least )
Also I want to cook up some casseroles with the diced beef in the freezer.I might have a go at making lentil pate as well.An apple pie is definitely on the cards as I got a box of sliced apples from the freezer last night
So NS today or if possible this week I have enough fresh fruit and veg and two cartons of long life milk I can use if I run short .
Have a good week everyone and keep wrapped up warm if possible

Awwwww *rolling of eyes and gnashing of teeth* this Saturday, penultimate day of my fiscal fast, there is a clearance jumble sale at the church across the road and I shall miss it!
Never mind, considering that I got a few new (needed) jumpers and shirts in the sale before starting the week (Barbour, massive reduction, 50% off everything plus buy 2 get one free). Expensive when on regular price but massive bargain with those two offers combined! And exceptionally good quality, lifetime durability.DH and I are well stocked up with wool end, for the next few years at least. So in the jumble sale I would have bought just for the sake of buying. Just as well! Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0
