    Evening all,

I am back on the fiscal fast, I am going to try and go as long as possible during January. It seems likely that we will be moving home at the end of the month so I have bits and pieces in the freezers and pantry to use up.

Just as well, as my finances are tight at the moment so the more I can hang onto my pennies the better.

So, my FF started December 28 and thus far 2 NSD.

Good Luck to others who are either started or will be shortly.

Just a quick update to say that on my fifth day of fiscal fasting and so far I am doing ok. There has been no expenditure from my purse or my bank account although a couple of times I did put items in my amazon checkout bag. Thankfully, I deleted them, and now I cannot even remember what the items were so obviously not really wanted or desired.

There are no plans to go out over the next few days so I should be ok on the not spending front.

Hopefully, as it is now the New Year I will soon have company on this thread.

    Take care all.

Happy New Year everyone and hopefully a thrifty one for us all.

I too have cupboards full of stuff which I am hoping to use before I buy anymore. One of my friends very kindly gave me a shoebox filled with tins and bits and pieces she had collected as a Christmas present I have had to store them on the side in the kitchen, as I really cannot stuff anything else into my cupboards.

So today is the start of 'operation eat-before-you-buy- anything -else ' month.
I am hoping to get as many NSD as possible in this month.probably will only need fruit and veg (although I do have quite a bit of fruit in the conservatory which is at the back of the house and keeps quite cold so fruit lasts very well in there)I have enough potato's and I think I will be using veg from the freezer for awhile to make some space in there.I have around 4 litres of long-life milk so thats OK plus a big packet of powdered milk( my just in case of snow ) I don't eat bread, so thats not a problem and I have about 4 packets of crispbreads to eat .So I think I'm pretty well sorted for at least 2-3 weeks. My holidays are booked and paid for already so apart from History club (£5.00 per week) and quiz night(£2.00 per week) and the window cleaner (£6.00 every four weeks) I am hoping for a very low-spend January :):):) bGood luck everyone with the F/fasting
    Cheers chums

Happy New Year and hello again

I did the FF last January and really surprised myself at how disciplined I was, but as per usual I became complacent and fell into bad habits again and as the year went on I completely lost my way :o

So I hope you dont mind if I join you again and I promise to stick at it longer than a month this time.

This being a public holiday makes it easier to achieve day 1 of no spending, the weather is a bit wet and miserable so I will go and make good use of my time indoors by doing a fridge/freezer/cupboard inventory and plan out what I need to do to make best use of what I have.

Like you Jackie, it will be my need for fresh veg that will probably break my fast - at the moment I have 1 onion, 2 large potatoes, about 10 Brussels sprouts, 5 carrots, half a cabbage, 5 spring onions, 1 baby gem lettuce and 1 beef tomato. Frozen veg consists of leeks, red peppers, roast pots and 1 portion of potato wedges - Sounds loads when I write it down it just doesn't look a lot.

Good luck to others joining in.

Welcome back Need2bthrifty. Like you I have fallen off the fiscal fast path but the one month I stuck with it did work and I am determined to persevere this year.

For me I have found that I need to weigh my frozen vegetables out, especially potatoes as I cook up far too much and this accounts for getting through the grocery budget and our extra weight. So this year I am going to weigh our food out.

I am now out of eggs so I may buy some when next passing a shop, but nothing else is needed.

  • Fell quickly off the wagon last year, result ... big dent in savings again!
    So, Fiscal Fast 2015 begins.
My budget is to the penny with £60.00 a week for an adult, three teenagers, a cat and a university student son.
Determined not to 'pop to the shops', and today I have managed the lure of Mr T and kept the purse shut!
Tomorrow is a spend of 'budgeted for' school trousers and trainers, but not taking cash for a coffee :( !
My teenage daughters are on allowance or bust, well ...
My other challenge is to make three de-clutter mountains, ebay, charity, dump.

    Welcome PhyllisEllen.

On day 6 of my fiscal fast and so far it is going well. On my list of items required are eggs, bread and soya milk.

I will probably buy these items either today or tomorrow as we need to buy some waitrose gift vouchers so will get these bits at the same time to save time and fuel costs.

    Good Luck all.

Me again! A few bits and pieces were purchased yesterday such as milk, eggs etc. hubby insisted on paying so I will need to find the receipt and update this page later. I will not deduct the sum from my grocery budget purse but I will count it as a nsd. Also, will keep a separate tally of hubby's expenditures on groceries so that a more accurate picture is gained by year end.

So back on the ff. Day 1 today. (7th nsd since 28/12)
