    Morning all,

I have changed the start of my fiscal fast to coincide with 2015, so I too am on day 6. Also, I have decided to only track my NSDs not hubby's as it gets too confusing. However, for interests sake I will make a note of all spending by both of us.

So, for me, there has been no spending at all yet. Have come close a couple of times but thankfully having taken my card details of amazon it has given me time to question the purchase.

    Good luck all.

I had to go and blow the fast this morning, all I needed to get was a birthday card :(

Food-wise I should be able to last till the weekend before I need to get fresh fruit and veg.

    Afternoon all,

I am so tired, I can hardly think straight.

On day 7 of FF and no money spent. Need2bthrifty, don't feel bad about the card purchase, some things are worth it for the pleasure they bring.

I will have to make a purchase tomorrow as I need a couple of necessary toiletries.

Then, it will be back to no unnecessary spending.

How is everyone doing? Erica, are you ok?

    Take care.

Good Morning all,yes anyone heard from Erica in California.I hope she is OK.
NSD today either as its raining cats and dogs and there is nothing I really need anyway.

I was given by my frind 4 jars of mincemeat from sainsbobs that she snaffled (well she got 4 for me and 4 for her at 10p a jar).

I have a recipe somewhere for mincemeat cake that I am going to dig out.I love those mincemeat slices that you can buy in the bakers so I'll scout around and see if anyone has a recipe for those as well as I have about 3kg in total of the stuff :):):) all long dated, but if I can use it up in a cake that would be nice and a change from just mince pies :):):)Struedel is another thought.
Hope we are all keeping out purses firmly closed,I've not spent anything since last year :):):)
    Cheers chums JackieO xxx

I am a little confused though as I am reading about how people have spent money on things on here so is the aim to go for as many nsds days as you can in a row or to go without for 7 days. Really hope people dont think I am being rude would love to join you so thought it best to ask.

  • Just spent £1.69 this morning on 4 pints of milk, half a cabbage, (The local g'grocer cuts the big ones in half) which is great for folk like me who don't need a large one and two King Edward spuds (for jackets )
First day this year that I have spent and cash on food .I'm trying to use up what I have in store as much as possible .No point not eating it,that's what it was bought for originally :):):)

Welcome skintmum2012, I think its more a case of using up what you have before going near to a shop. We have all have had the £5.00 loaf that we popped in the shop for, and came out with more than we needed or wanted .

I virtually write what is run out of and needed down, and take just enough cash to cover it then I'm not tempted to spend more than I have to I knew I needed some fresh green veg today and a couple of spuds for jackets next week and some milk so only took £2.50 out with me and consequentially only spent £1.69 and came home again.

This morning was the first time I had gone near to a shop since I came home from DDs after New Year .She gave me a lot of left over fruit and veg when I cam home so I have used it up as much as possible.Bendy leeks were turned into leek and tattie soup.I am down to three sweet potato's in the veg basket and a bag of onions
I have frozen veg ,but really fancied some cabbage .

I am making sure that every scrap of my food mountain is used if possible this month as I want to stash some more cash into my holiday account for my holiday in August. So my food stocks are going to be utilised more than normally.

Its a case of what works well for yourself I think. I live alone so its probably easier for me than if I had a family to feed, but staying away from supermarkets really does help with hanging on to your cash. Supermarkets have very clever folk who know how to tempt you with stuff.

They are there to sell you stuff you didn't even know you wanted or needed.

When I was growing up in the 1940s-50s you shopped for needs not wants and because of rationing things had to be streeetched ,sometimes almost until it snapped :):) but it was normal for everyone to make the food last as long as possible .

I still have as my late Mum did, soup as a starter, or a pudding afterwards never both .
It means that your meal is more filling and you need less on your plate for main course.
My DD has four growing lads who could eat for England, and she always does some sausage rolls on the main big serving plate at sunday dinner as it helps that the joint is streeched that bit further

From a say leg of lamb she will get 7 meals on Sundays and a further 6 with the left-overs. No one goes hungry and the boys all eat well and eat lots of veg as well.

Its hard sometimes to make ends meet when you have a family, but it is possible with a little creative thinking :):):)
    Good luck everyone

    Morning all,

I have not had any more spend days since the one last week when I had a small grocery shop and bought my dad's birthday gifts.

Was ill over the weekend so I did not venture out.

I did nearly succumb to buying a book on Amazon, ordered late last night and fortunately still had time to cancel this morning. I will delete my bank details from the account again as this helps stop my spending.

An easy dinner tonight. Need to get some meat out for tomorrow's dinner as need to empty the freezers for defrosting in the next couple of weeks.

    Good Luck all.
