What luck JackieO yes you can freeze it in chunks or grated but it will keep in the fridge for a few months as long as its not in plastic. I have kept hard cheeses for ages without harm.

I've found it keeps much better wrapped in grease proof in the fridge as freezing it can alter the texture I've found.
  • Parmesan mountain wrapped in greaseproof paper and a memo to myself DON'T KEEP EATING IT :):):) I do love the stuff though, and will be so tempted to have a taste every day :):):)
Cupboards crammed full so definitely no more shopping for me for awhile thank goodness.Just going to have a bagel from the freezer toasted with some soft chilli cheese on it and a nice hot cuppa for breakfast.Eldest DD is coming at lunchtime for her pot of coffee and scrambled eggs then late afternoon I am off to youngest DDs for dinner.Busy week this week I have a book club party tomorrow morning ,then coffee morning Tuesday morning Quiz in the pub tuesday night,U3A Christmas party on Wednesday afternoon,Thursday night I am off to the panto with youngest DGD (comp tickets via DD ) and Friday afternoon its History .Next Saturday my DGS Ben comes home from Uni for the Christmas Vac so I'm really looking forward to that.Good job I have no shopping to buy I haven't got the time I am like Alice's white rabbit rushing hither and thither :):):)
  • Hi I am really going to try this in the new year, my cupboards are really full so is my fridge freezer , my problem is I work in one of the big four supermarkets so nearly every day I work I come out with some thing, like all money savers I can not resist YS I pick up tins of toms, pulses, veg in tins at silly prices, so most days I come out with something.
Well in the new year this is going to stop I am only going to take the cash I need with me,leave the card at home,so I will be jumping on board with you lovely people in the new year

  • Welcome Dee to our happy band of fiscal fasters :) It may seem a bit drastic at first but its so well worth it.

Why not try to think of a goal for something you really want to buy with what you've saved.

My left over cash at the end of the month goes into my 'holiday pot' which I use every August when I go away with my DD and family of four boys on holiday .
The money I stash every month whether its several pounds, or on a particularly expensive month sometimes only a few shillings it all gets stashed away and at holiday time apart from my normal holiday cash I always have extra which will pay for treats for us all when we are away at our holiday house.Last year it paid for our last meal at a nice restaraunt on the last night before we came home:):):)
See what you can stash by ,say the last day of January from the first day.Just by avoiding the SM and only buying what you NEED in doors.I find it helps to work out my menu plan on a Sunday morning .Shop from your YS bashed about tins in the cupboard ,as you bought them to eat and its 'hard cash' sitting on the shelves in front of you.I spent on a 'big' shop last week and now have only to buy fresh sausage meat for the rolls on Christmas Eve.Its been great this week not having to push and shove my way around crowded shops.
Good Luck and hopefully you will see like the rest of us that shopping this way sometimes makes your waist thinner and your purse fatter
    Cheers JackieO xx

Hi Dee, welcome to the boards. I have the same problem as you, I work in a SM and until recently used to bring a load of YS stuff home. In truth I didn't need it and because I don't take my purse to work anymore this has stopped. I do keep a spare £ in my locker for emergencies, but this has been there for a while now.x
:j Debtfree and and staying that way.:j3-6 month emergency fund, No.61 £140.00
  • Great idea amber03 as from the 1st January I will do that leave a couple of quid in my locker & leave the purse at home, have already made some savings as since last Christmas we have not had a canteen at work, I used to spend at least a fiver a day in the canteen , but since it has gone I have been taking my cereals & milk in & salads for lunch so saving quite a bit.
Roll on January 1st I can not wait to get started lol

  • Great idea, If I only have a few things to buy I tend to take just enough to cover them and leave the rest of my cash indors. Its so easy to think " Oh thats a bargain, and half the price ,but then get it home put it in the cupboards whith all the other "bargains".

Unless you specifically know that you will use it in the next week or so LEAVE IT ALONE :):):)LOCK UP YOUR PURSE :):):)and go home and rethink.

I have never regretted leaving a 'bargain' yet.I was tempted in the chazza shop when I saw a cook book that looked good last week , but even 20p couldn't be prised out of old padlock purse here :):):)

It would have joined the almost a hundred other "can't-do-without cookbooks on my shelves.

On my to-do list for January is 'declutter some of my books ':):)
This year its going to be Operation Hang-on-to-my hap'nnies :):):)
being frugal doesn't mean you can't enjoy yourself .My DD wants some fir cones for decorations Dobbies want £12.00 a bag !!! I think not, I shall take my DGS to the local country park and see if we can forage for some for free.
I have already dried some slices of orange on a paper towel on the radiator and they are hung on the tree with a bit of thread and the room smells gorgeous of oranges, much better than an artificial spray and a lot cheaper as well

I hope you all have a great Christmas and a peacful and healthy New Year
    Merry Christmas every one

:D Hey, jackie0, years ago, I was PMSL in a shop which had packets of a dozen very ordinary pine cones, no added value such as a smidge of glitter/ paint/ ribbon etc, for £5.99.

The shop was on the edge of a pine forest, there were cones a-plenty lying on the ground just outside..........:rotfl:
