Good afternoon chums ,my budget has been all over the place this month as I have been in and out of hospital then staying at my youngest DDs for the past week I am only home for two days then back to their house again for several more days, so with what I have in store plus a few odds and ends in the fridge that my eldest DGD Katie ,bless her and boyfriend Tommy brought at lunchtime I have more than enough to get me through until the end of the month.I am unable at the moment to carry any shopping ,or for that fact almost anything as I have only just had my stitches out so I am being very careful about what I do.I have another four weeks until I can drive anyhow.Luckily before I went into hospital I made a stash of ready meals that I only have to take from the freezer to the microwave so not a lot of cooking either
:) but I am getting stronger by the day ,if a little impatient with myself.I am definitely not a patient patient
:) But I am just watching t.v. and napping a bit when tired to mend myself quicker. So F'Fasting is on the back burner until the end of the month, but then I have spent very little at all so in a way its all to the good
:)
See you all again at the end of April
Cheers chums

P.S Good to see Erica back posting, the food price rises are hitting everyone worldwide I think. My eldest DGD Katie bless her and Tommy are buying their house at the moment ,but she and Tommy have discovered how much more inexpensive it is to shop in Aldi's and Lidl's.She sat and told me at lunchtime how I could save cash by using them instead.(I didn't like to tell her I have been shopping around since the mid 1950s) and could probably tell her where the cheapest and best value was:):):) so I did the wise old Grandma thing and looked suitably impressed by her wisdom:):)

Hello,
I desperately need to rejoin and do a fiscal fast! Been looking through my bank statement and there has been far too much expenditure at A*zon and this has hit my savings account. I tend to either buy books or over eat when feeling down and neither are good for my savings!
So, I will join you all in doing a fiscal fast. I have an internet food shop booked for the 2nd May and so I will see how I do until then.
Erica, Ouch on the food prices.
Jackie, I hope you are healing well after your op.

Well I failed pretty miserably on the enforced fiscal fast, including DH buying a coffee machine and the associated coffee pouches to go with it!!
I absolutely must not go over whats left of my budget. I have £102 to last me until the 20th May. Must be strong, must be good, must not overspend on food!!!
I have just done a freezer inventory. DH is away for a few days next week so perhaps we can have cheaper meals that he isn't so keen on. Girls (and guys) I am going to sit down and do a meal plan right away while I have my savvy head on!
Hope your fast is going okay Erica. $3 for a bag of potatoes is amazing, good find!Saving for Disney again, oops why book one Disney holiday when you can book two!:starmod: Emergency Fund Savings - #148 - £10/£1000 1% :starmod::xmastree:#083 SPC6 £63 - SPC7 £90 - SPC8 £63 - SPC9 £54 - SPC10 £26 - SPC12 £70 :xmastree:0 -
hi, im back again need to calm down on the food shopping again................its the reductions section that's my problem I CANT PASS THE REDUCED MEAT!!!!!!!!!!!! sorry but I think I need to see aproffessional about this its obsessive! lol. well I don't need anything for a while fruit and veg will suffice for a good week and everything else in freezers will be used up at least that's the plan. tomorrow will be one of the colony of chickens I have in ppoultry freezer 1.11 it cost from 5.55 and reduced veg in every form, will do roast potatoes and Yorkshire puddings as well. good luck all, xxxC.R.A.P.R.O.L.L.Z #7 member N.I splinter-group co-ordinater

Well I have been on this fiscal fast for 8 days now... ok ok, i bought nappies on day 4, but can't get more essential than that! And I have to say, it has been amazingly enlightening.... I used to be convinced that trips to the shops every other day were essential.... no they're not! Wow! I have been pretty frugal since having 2 babies and going from full time work, to part time work, and am at the end of my maternity leave with a few bills coming up, so that's why i did it....
Am so glad I did... and the mental part is, the cupboards are still pretty full.... I haven't managed to declutter the house like some people
manage on this challenge, but i have done more "free" activities with my boys, which, being honest, more than i'd normally do.... so all round positive....
My plan from now is to keep the spending to necessities for the next few weeks... stay out of the shops (which has made me more relaxed anyway!) and get finances back on track.... Will do a big shop when everyting is getting low...
Have read every word of this very long thread and found it hugely supportive and motivating.... Cheers!!

It is not just you. I do the same but at least at the moment I am endeavouring to eat the previous YS deals that are currently in the freezer. I have saved a fortune this way. One way I found that helps is buy milk in bigger amounts to reduce the need to go to the supermarket. If I am good I can last more than a week between shops. Though I will time my visits to get loads of deals when I do go.It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0 -
Hi chums I am back at home now as I have been staying with DD and family and been far too well looked after
:) I am using up some bits I have in the fridge that DD got for me and so will start my F/Fasting again on Thursday the start of the new month.I have so much stuff in the cupboards and freezer still that I know I can have a reasonable month in May.My food alone budget for the month of May is £60.00 and that goes into a seperate purse on Thursday morning.
As at the moment I have another three weeks before I can drive again its buses for me and very little shopping anyway as I mustn't carry much at all so I am going to literally only buy absolute neccessities that are vital .I have a stash of long-life milk in the fridge and DD bought me some potato's so very little needed at all.Hopefully by not having to buy or carry stuff it will enable me to work my way through the food stocks a bit more.
Good luck everyone with the F/fasting its so well worth it.
craidywv I know what you mean about the reduced sections but be strong and resist:):) I have a freezer stuffed full of bits and bobs and I am going to work my way through it this coming month
Cheers chums onwards and upwards

Oh well - it's the 'end of the month' and no money due for around 10days .
Long-life milk - stashed in bottom of spare wardrobe
Plenty of eggs
A few half-loaves in the freezer
Few bits of salad in drawer
Lots of apples in fruit bowls (don't like crispy apples)
Plenty in freezers - including veg and stewed fruit
Time to dig deep into the freezer contents and to tighten the purse-strings - but will definitely need fresh salad stuff.
Go away for 2wks holiday in five weeks plus next weekend I'm at my sister's house (mother-sitting while she and her husband have an 'Anniversary Break' at their caravan). Then I'm away with BOTH my sisters for 'our girlie joint-birthday bash weekend' to the same caravan for the Late Spring Bank Holiday :j.
awww my OH will definitely be feeling left out.
