Change of plan as family now coming end of week instead but dh is popping home for lunch so going to do something interesting with the leftovers from the Mediterranean chicken, maybe cut up, warm through and eat with pasta. Off to Stocktake the larder now!Our days are happier when we give people a bit of our heart rather than a piece of our mind.

Another nsd here. I have picked up my prescription but i have a prepay certificate.
Apart from this, it is a housework day today. Have started the ironing, put a couple of washes on, using cold wash where able. Also, using my heated airer which allows me to heat the room where I spend the day plus dry clothes. So no central heating the house is needed when I am here by myself.
Been through my budget and all is ok, although jan is an expensive month with house insurance etc.
Enjoy reading everyones posts.
Peony.

Day 11 for me and having a cleaning day – you know the bits that you can’t be bothered doing and prefer to go shopping instead
.
I also made a huge pot of soup on Saturday; used 2 portions for lunches and 4 for the freezer. Used the last of the prosciutto on a ham/tomato/cheese/onion pizza Saturday night and yesterday was freezer stock.
Veg is now getting VERY low but should last a couple more days – 3 potatoes left, one I will have as wedges tonight with pigs in blankets & baked beans, the other two will be made into mash to top a chicken & leek pot pie type thing, carrots & sweetcorn on the side.
Wednesday will have to be a pasta or risotto dish then I will go shopping on Thursday :j – hoping for a good selection in @ldi’s super 6 – I would imagine potatoes and swede being part of them with Burns Night coming up.Jan - June Grocery spends = £531.61

I am doing okay, though will need to shop within a day or two. Still using the cash I started with at the beginning of the month so no impact on cards at all. It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0

Hi,
I have read some of this thread and have decided to join in. I did sort my food cupboards out after Christmas but i think the freezers could have food I've forgotten about lurking at the back.
I'm between jobs and I don't start my new job until feb3rd and won't get paid until end of feb !!! so I do need to be careful.
I feel fortunate that I bought a bread maker from eBay after Christmas do I won't be running out of bread.
I did my (so called)weekly shopping yesterday!! I'll see how long i will last.
Cheers gill
Day 3 for me and success 3 days no spending. I have baked bread which tastes yummy and decided to bake some cakes, my granddaughter agreed baking cakes together was fun.

I have just had another coffee and will definitely need some milk tomorrow. So will use my cash and found a 30p coupon for the cream I will need but might save that for the following week.
Some of my software has been updated so will need to upgrade that so am going to hold off till my big spend day (birthday party) and do it then. I will also bring forward next months cash back grocery shop to the same day so might actually cope with the cash for a whole month. So it will mean that my cards will only have had two spend days this months, and will have relied solely on the cash I had taken out at the beginning for everything. Also it could mean that I may not need to touch the cards until the end of February. It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0 -
Managed another 2 day's FF, will have to buy milk and bread today so will turn this into my shopping day and get some basic's in to go with the mushy pea mountin.£71.93/ £180.000

All going well here at the end of day four; lunch is always my downfall so I cooked a pan of pasta yesterday and separated it into three tubs for today, tomorrow and Thursday. I also roasted a tray of veggies, pumpkin, peppers and suchlike to make up into a pasta salad with some sundried tomatoes (ancient) and feta cheese.
My breakfast yoghurt is likely to run out but I do have standby sachet of Easiyo in the larder I can make up for next week. I put my bread in the fridge to give it a bit of extra life but not had much need for it with having pasta lunches prepared, so I might see about doing something else with it to save chucking it.
I will make a paella style dish tomorrow as I have some chorizo and chicken to use up; although I will be trying to eke out the couple of small red peppers I have. I can already see that peppers will feature high on the list for when I do my top-op shop on Friday!Mortgage

I have wondered about making my own yoghurt but unsure about doing so. Any tips?
Paella is also very good cold. When I make it I have half cold a day or so later. It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0 -

Day 12 and still counting(sorry, cant get the self satisfied grin off my face)
More cleaning today (keeping myself from spending mischief) windows done on the inside and its brightening up a bit so may get the outside done as well.
I’ve made my own yoghurt in the past, haven’t done it for a while as I’m going through a greek yoghurt phase, I found my hm stuff tasty enough but not a thick as the greek stuff. There is a thread on here somewhere which gives instruction on doing it in a flask or in the slow cooker.Jan - June Grocery spends = £531.61
