Fiscal Fast – 7 days no spending (at all)

Day 2 and no risk for another 5 days. It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0

Back on board and avoided going out (had to wait in for deliveries - all paid for a couple of days ago) To keep busy I got cooking, used 500g of app foods bread mix, olives, herbs and tom sauce to make a pizza (the cheese was leftover from friends coming to lunch) and some bread rolls. Found I had loads of the sauce left so made Jeff Yeager's Mediterranean Chicken in the crockpot which used up some more of the tomato pronto sauce and olives.
This prompted me to go look at Jeff's you tubes especially the fiscal fast ones. Hopefully this link works to one of his newer tapes:- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gWvqp30Xz2o
Edited as I couldn't get first link to load

Right off to check on the chicken!

I did sign up for a veggie delivery from Abel and Cole so next week will get my first delivery. So can probably cut my cash spend a lot. So my cash pile might simply grow faster. My bank balance will obviously take a hit but I think I will be able to stretch out the delivery for several weeks. It will take a few weeks to work out the best option for me, and will probably be no cheaper but healthier for me.It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0

I think I'm gonna start doing this.
I've been ridiculously busy recently and I've gotten used to nipping into tesco for something to eat and coming out £20-30 down
I'm going to the hairdressers on Sunday but it's already paid. I will need petrol halfway through the week though, and possibly a carton of milk.
I won't be spending on anything that is not essential0 -
Hi,
I have read some of this thread and have decided to join in. I did sort my food cupboards out after Christmas but i think the freezers could have food I've forgotten about lurking at the back.
I'm between jobs and I don't start my new job until feb3rd and won't get paid until end of feb !!! so I do need to be careful.
I feel fortunate that I bought a bread maker from eBay after Christmas do I won't be running out of bread.
I did my (so called)weekly shopping yesterday!! I'll see how long i will last.
Cheers gillpaid all debts off 2024 yay0 -
Well done chums back to Day one again and a new fiscal fast. I think focussing on what you buy even if you do go shopping is good as it does stop you spending unnecessarily on stuff you really don't need I too bought those carrots which I could probably have done without yesterday but they have been turned into 3 litre of soup which cost me 30p plus a couple of veg stock cubes(basic ones of course from sainsbobs
:) around 4p.So I have the equivilent of around 4 tins of soup for 34p plus cooking say 16p = 50p in total. This will do for lunches or as a starter for 8 meals. This is how I like to cost things out
:):)
I have some bendy leeks and slightly sprouty spuds in the veg basket which will get turned into Leek and potato soup this morning and once cool will go into the freezer.Far better than binning and will be a back up in case I get fed up of my carrot and coriander next week and want a change:):):)
So onwards and upwards chums and hanging onto my pennies this month:):)

Day 9 for me
.
I may also have to make some soup, 3 of my carrots are starting to get a bit hairy(other 4 are okay so far) will use them and the bit of swede I have – can’t decide whether to throw in some of the potatoes as they are holding up pretty well, I may just use lentils and save the potatoes for roasties/wedges or mash.
I have four items on my shopping list, none of which are essential, my menu plan runs until Wednesday, but everything revolves around chicken/turkey or veggie dishes – beginning to crave a bit of red meatJan - June Grocery spends = £531.61
July - Aug Grocery spends = £219.21
Sept - Grocery spends = £ 32.530 -
Afternoon all,
Welcome to the new posters.
Had a small spend of £1.59 today; i bought a card for my mum to give my dad for his 80th birthday, then remembered i helped her to write one for him on Thursday. (Mum is disabled.)
Oh well, it is a nice card that will do for someone else.
So my fiscal fast will start tomorrow.
Beautiful sunny day, so been out for a walk in the local woods. Then went to a garden centre where I saw some beautiful lemon coloured primroses in a wicker basket, but I didn't buy them as they were £7.
Have a lovely day.

I have a feeling that if I decided to do this, I would simply plan ahead. I would buy in next weeks birthday cards/presents etc this week, I would meal plan and buy in all food I needed. Not exactly no spending for 7 days, cos I would spend it all this week instead lol
I understand the concept of what the video and yourself are trying to do, but I feel I would cheat at it :rotfl:
I catch your drift,;) there, but that is the purpose of the excercise. Yes, you would plan ahead, and buy extra toilet roll, bread, other things. This is all fine!
The test is that in a no spend week, you would not be able to pop to the shop and buy random items, thus saving small amounts of money, which, we all know, add up over time, to bigger amounts of money. The challenge is also to think of alternatives to what we were tempted to go out and buy, be it food, or non-food items.
I think it is a great idea. Although, I would be rubbish at it. I think I will start small, and go for a complete No Spend Day :rotfl:keep smiling,

The only problem for me is that I need to go out once a week to get milk. I bulk buy everything else and so it is only the milk that causes me to break the habit at day 6 or 7.It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0
