Hi,
Noticed you were using a heated airer, have always fancied one. Could you tell me a bit about yours e.g. make, model, etc Thank you0 -
I have wondered about making my own yoghurt but unsure about doing so. Any tips?0

Paella is also very good cold. When I make it I have half cold a day or so later.
I have this http://www.lakeland.co.uk/7531/EasiYo-Yoghurt-Maker so yes it's easy enough, although I went off of making it but still have a few sachets of Greek Yoghurt mixture in the cupboard. The Greek yoghurt mix does set pretty solid but there are other ready made yoghurts that I prefer. I keep meaning to try the make my own from scratch with a small pot of ready made but really with the price of milk it seems hardly worth the bother.
I like cold paella style rice too.Mortgage

need2bthrifty well done you are a star, its amazing how inventive f/fasting can make you.At the moment I am on Day 5 of my second f/fast this month and feel I can go on for, until hopefully next week.I have absolutely nothing on my shopping list at the moment I was going to put milk on there but I noticed I have two long life cartons at the back of the fridge so I'll use those first instead.
Still have veg in the basket and enough for this week at least, but I know I also have veg in the freezer as well.I am going to sort out my tinned fruit this morning and see what I have.Plenty of stewd apples in the freezer though and a couple of cartons of OJ in the fridge so not too bad for fruit.I have a yen to make a rice pudding so I think as I have a large tin of evap milk I will make a two pint pud with that,I can use the pud with tinned fruit as desserts for this week.
I like to add sutanas and cinnamon to my rice pudding as it livens it up a bit..I have my sis-in-law coming next Sunday for coffee so I'll probably make some biscuits for her as the biscuit tin is looking rather bare:)
We are now halfwat through the month virtually and so far I've only spent just over £18.00 out of my £60.00 food purse,so I'm really pleased, plus by using up stuff from the cupboard the food mountain is shifting:):)
Good luck everyone I think we are all doing splendidly0 -
Thanks Jackie, but honestly you have been my inspiration – I hadn’t done the GC for a long time and checked through the list of people and their budgets to get a ball-park figure and saw what you were working on, then stumbled on this thread.
Although I did spend well in December, just taking the time to be a bit more creative with what I have has got me half way through this month. I still have enough food in the freezer/store-cupboard to keep me going another couple of weeks it’s really only the lack of veg, red meat and fish that is driving me out to shop and also the fact that my meal plan will start getting a bit repetitive.
So here I am on day 13 and I had planned a pasta or rice dish for tonight but not really on for it – rummaging in the freezer I found some sliced ham (one of those little parcels – no label - and you think “whats this”) so that along with ¼ a block of puff pastry are defrosting and I will make something I saw a cook on the food network channel making, really as a party nibble type thing but it’s basically a ham & cheese pasty - a layer of pastry, spread with mustard, layer of ham, layer of cheese, layer of pastry, then baked.
Off to make my shopping list for tomorrow.
Also just found @ldi’s super 6 from tomorrow, thanks to the food shopping thread :T

day 6 and still no shopping bought.I dug a tin of grapefruit out of the storecupboard today that I had forgotten about.I had half this morning for breakfast and the other half will be tomorrows breakfast.DGD Holly came to lunch and I did her a sald with lots of bits and pieces from the fridge and she wolfed it down. She said it was epic which I think she means very nice
:):).Cost me nothing as it was odds and ends from the fridge including lettuce, tomato, cucumber, chopped celery, some chopped beetroot, grated cheese,a handful of black grapes and a tiny chicken kiev that I dug out of the freezer. It did look quite colourful on the plate I must admit
:):)
I had some HM carrot and coriander soup and crackers, with prunes and a dollop of custard to follow. So tonight its going to be scrambled eggs and crackerbread followed by an orange for my dinner.0 -
Thanks for all the yoghurt hints and tips. I am still no closer to deciding whether to make it. I will have a long think about it. Thanks once again. It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0

Well that's a good few days under my belt.
Had to stop at asda for mum on Monday for a loaf, so got milk and spent £4 - this milk will last me at least 3 weeks. Mum made our dinner as well on Monday.
I also got my petrol and spent £40. This should do everything till Tuesday
I shouldn't have any spends at all until Monday at the earliest. My soup is still there for lunches and I'm working lates at the weekend.0 -
We survived the first seven days and I went and did a little bit of shopping as planned today - I spent $55 (about £28) - a bit more than I had hoped but mostly non-food and essentials; washing powder, lady things, one loaf of bread, some milk and a little bit of veg for Sunday dinner and some nectarines for lunches next week. I bough two packets of breakfast cereals just because they were on offer.
I felt a bit bereft with my tiny wee bit of shopping and didn't quite know what to do with myself this evening.Mortgage

Hi,
I managed 7 days with the fiscal fast!!!. I'm very pleased, I have got really low on some items, and I think I had got used to a certain level of some items being in my cupboard. It was hard not to go out and replace them--it made me look at what I have in my cupboards and use up bits and pieces, and be creative.
I don't know how much money I have saved but it is about £20.00
It is my shopping day today, I'm looking forward to that.
Gillpaid all debts off 2024 yay0
