Day 7 for me.
Feeling really pleased with myself - Lurking behind the mayo jar in the fridge was an unopened carton of double cream I had forgotten about, use by date 31 Dec – oops, so decided to have a go at making butter – success :j – used some of it and the buttermilk that came from it to make a batch of scones, have to say they are the best I have ever made. That got me on a roll so made another batch using the heel of stilton cheese that I wasn’t sure what to do with = delish.
So that’s enough bread and scones in the freezer to keep me going for a while, the only downside I’m now down to just two eggs.

A start of a new week of NSD. I bought some top up items yesterday and a few treats with cash from my monthly budget, but still did not break into the cards. No risks for a few days, I have everything I need indoors so can relax on the spending front. It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0

Done my shopping list for tomorrow, and by my reckoning it will come to under a tenner with luck
:):)I'm only buying exactly whats needed and will only take a tenner with me to ensure that I am not tempted:):)
Well done Need2bethrifty, thats a great way to use something up, and make something else out of it
and well done Frugalsod on not using the cards, its so easy to add things when its a card payment as it doesn't seem like money for some reason.I have a seperate purse which I use and put my food money only in it on the first day of every month and when its empty that's it until the first of the following month.Never had debit cards in the 1950s-60s just used cash only,I still do it today over 50 years later.
Anyone used up left over bits from Christmas in a different way ???0 -
Evening all - proud to say that I've achieved nsd 3. Still eating from the stores and the freezer so doing okay.44 day challenge
1. Pay £650 off overdraft (£ 288/ £650)
2. Lose 12 lbs (4.5/ 12)
3. Use YNAB everyday (6/44)0 -
I have signed up to veggie box deliveries from Abel and Cole. Not so frugal but the upside is that the £40 pocket money I took out at the beginning of the month will now definitely last me till the end of the month. I will use the amount I do not spend to top up my emergency cash fund. It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0

Fell off the wagon on the 5th January purchasing football boots for DD2 and topping up her voucher spend in Waterstones!
However, Tuesday we got back on board and today is Day 3 of the FF successfully completed.
DD2 conceded to buying her replacement football socks, and DD1 phoned me to say she was using her own money for Pepsi Cola because, clearly, I wasn't going to get that for her!
Tomorrow I hope to bank a couple of Xmas cheques which then gives me the princely sum of £17.15 to the end of the month! Plus an assortment of vouchers if we get desperate, meals planned for next few days from freezer but fresh fruit a problem on the horizon!
Here's to Day 4!0 -
Just back from my first shop of the year and managed to get it at just under a tenner as predicted, and I even bought a large bag of reduced carrots for 30p which will be turned into carrot and coriander soup tomorrow for next weeks lunches .So I am very pleased at how things have panned out this morning .I am also pleased that I never took more than £10.00 with me or I know I would have been tempted with some of the offers. But I bought my soap, cling film and foil from wilkinsons and saved a bit there and the fresh veg from my g'grocers and only bought what I needed, i.e. a bag of carrots (reduced 30p) and two medium sized spud for baking 29p as they were unwashed ones ,took me two minutes to wash them when I got home
and I only needed two slightly bigger ones than the ones indoors for jacket spuds next week.
:) Bought some bits in Aldi's celery and cucumbers were good prices and some tomato's in there were pretty good as well.Tesco's had taste the differance Fortier mushrooms reduced to 66p instead of £1.25 so a bargain there.Even Iceland had reduced price strawberry jelly at 25p for Harleys which is good as its usually 40p+.I now have more than enough for the next week so that's it my purse is shut for at least another 7 days

Morning all,
I had a small spend yesterday of £5 on some bits and pieces that I forgot to include in my main grocery shop that came on Monday. So I got to day 6 which isn't too bad.
Now on Day 1.
I am not going out today so I shall be alright. Also, i will remove my card details from my amazon account so that it is not so easy for me to buy books!
Window cleaner is here now, but his £10 comes out from a different spending pot.
Needed a loaf of bread so I have the bread machine on now. Need to get on with the housework and washing. Hope the weather remains dry so i can get some of it pegged on the line.
Fish pie tonight, hope hubby likes it as he has only had it once before. Had fish in the freezer for some time so i wish to use it up. Need to menu plan for the week today as well.
Take care all.

Well done Jackie! Your post reminded me that I have a few carrots, pots and an onion which need using, so carrot soup I will be making once my veg peeler is retrieved from the dish washer.

Day 8 and still trying to keep going as long as possible – I do have a parcel to post but putting it off until I need to go shopping as well so that I just have one spending day, then back on the fast. The fruit bowl is also getting a bit low but should have enough to keep going….at a stretch until Tuesday or Wednesday – wow that is almost half way through the month – can I make it only two spending days this month…Mmmmmm
Well done Need2bethrifty, thats a great way to use something up, and make something else out of it
Anyone used up left over bits from Christmas in a different way ???
Jackie, I was a bit dubious about the cream being so far past its date but I’m a great believer in the nose test and although it had a rather thick skin on the top it smelled fine, I am keeping the remainder of the butter in the freezer though and only taking out what I need, just in case it starts to go a bit rancid.
Leftover turkey from the freezer tonight - Turkey Chilli & rice with a side of sweetcorn and tomato salsa. I still have a large chunk of cooked turkey in the freezer which I will of course use to make the obligatory curryJan - June Grocery spends = £531.61

Drat! I'm not very good at this FF at the moment, got a recall on the car so I also booked it in for a winter service at the same time, so took it in Wensday, only to be told my service light was coming on and I had a split gater[?] as well, just as well I took OH to mug and the servise is done and out of the way instead of waiting till March when it was due.£71.93/ £180.000
