Hello all- I will be joining in the fiscal fast but know I have Chrimble pressies to buy in the next few weeks so will hold off for now- won't go mad though.

With regards to slow cookers I have one but have never thought of owning more than one as I don't think I would use them all. I often double batch and am also trying to use mine for more varied recipes- I've made apple butter, dumplings and a steamed pud in mine over the last few months aswell as casseroles. Next on the list is lemon curd. Am also intrigued by the idea of hay boxes which would be even cheaper- on a recent TV programme they showed one that they'd made from a pine bedside cabinet which they'd insulated with hay- they then put the hot casserole dish inside and duct taped the door in place.

  • I only have 1 slow cooker, only me and DD.

I didn't do too well at the weekend. I bought chicken for roast dinner £5.50. So expensive. I told my bf off, if he had warned me earlier on Saturday, I would have gone to the market!!I spent £7.10 in Sainsburys, needed gravy and stuffing too!!£1.54 in Lidl, on milk and choco bars for DD lunch box. £8.64 at the weekend!!

However, I cooked too much Sunday, so we had a mini roast roast yesterday too and I am using the rest of the chicken today for a pasta bake. It's money I had made from ebay. I still have £8 in my purse. Oh, Friday my DD had some rainbow theatre thing at school that was £4. Grr
  • I too just have one slow-cooker, not sure I have the cupboard space to have more than one :) I use my microwave to make quick sponge puddings for me and two little ones so use the slow-cooker for meat and stews and soups etc.

  • I have a slow cooker that I got for Christmas. It is a small one, 2 quarts but it is just me so it's just right. I'm still learning to use it. One of my favorite recipies is pinto beans and bacon. Or you can use ham. My Granny used to make that with ham and it was so good.
It isn't always easy to cook for one person. The last time I made pinto beans and bacon I was eating it for a week straight!! I got pretty creative though, next time I am thinking of putting maybe a clove or two of garlic in it. I like the flavor of garlic.
Hmmm....I feel inspired to go look up slow cooker recipes.
Thanks for posting Jeff. It's nice to have a fellow American on here. Sometimes I feel a bit out of place here but, I feel I have made some AWESOME friends on here.

Hoping to keep it up until friday of this week as I am flying back home :D and will probably spend some moola when I'm on my 8 hour layover on food! :)

  • "Gaaah..." I am SO tempted to spend today, all because I am bored. That's always my pattern, I get bored and I'm tempted to spend. Atleast I recognize it. I have been tempted to count my bottle of change, but am going to resist. I promised I wouldn't count any of it untill it is VERY full.
It's not even close to a quarter of the way full yet. That is also a part of my emergency fund. Speaking of loose change, I have been finding pennies left and right all over my town lately. I guess people don't consider pennies to be worth much any more. I think I have found atleast 7 cents in the last week and a half.
Sometimes I will make a game out of looking for loose change. It's actually fun. One time I found 65 cents in one day!!
I hope everyone is doing well!! Does anyone know what Jeff Yeager's first book is? I might save up for it.

  • Hope everyone is ok - cold now here in old Blighty isn't it? :)

So, Fiscal Fast got a teeny bit broken here yesterday. I had a bit of time to pop into a big supermarket I usually go nowhere near and after trawling around and going back and forth up and down the aisles I picked up £17 of fruit, veggies, herbs, bread rolls and a wee bit of cheese for £2.50. Still, I started this on Friday so I did 4 days, and there was no spending today and there won't be until the weekend so I'm pleased enough.
