There is an awful lot to grasp for us newbie technophobes. Also, this post boosting business is news to me, why does everything have to be so complicated?:snow_grin"Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow........":snow_grin0

Sorry Dimitar, dont want you to think I'm complaining for the sake of it but I dont like it.
I prefer Tony's idea of just having the "thanks" under the thread rather than under our usernames.
Maybe I'm in the minority here so I'll shut up!0 -

I accept 'Thanks' may clutter up threads - however agree with Tony, Traf and Bridiej should not be under usernames. Could obviously lead to excessive sycophancy sycophancy; fawning flattery: servility, obsequious flattery, and other fawning behaviour which should not be encouraged
I'm already slightly mortified that I have been thanked twice for views - anonymity is a great asset and I often like to keep my warm glow inside.
Perhaps there can be different levels of Thanks – Nos 1. Recognition you took time to reply. Nos 2. Really valuable bargain/advice Nos 3. No thanks Nos 4. No thanks but recognise you took time to reply …… this could go on & on. My mind is already starting to wander with visions of medals, podiums, awards etc.0 -
If you are going to say 'thanks' then say thanks with some feedback as to what you actually did and what the outcome was. Advice can be tailored and modified according to what others have tried and succeeded/failed with. Often without specific feedback you do not know the key components of success in solving a complex forum hosted problem. So I urge posters who issue advice, to request feedback, if feedback would benefit future advice.
In many other circumstances this feature is a good thing as it saves web space..
I have one 'thanks', what was it for ? . Please let me know.
J_B.
PS I could have pressed the Thankyou button and have not written the above0 -
as far as I can see from some forums there are people still actually posting a message saying thanks as well as thanking the poster via the Thanks button. So still increasing their post count and adding to the clutter in the thanks bar between posts! Kind of defeats the object.
Also has anyone else noticed that people are getting thanks just for posting! Not posting anything useful or helpful, but a post saying simply something like "I got one of those too" - that gets a Thanks!
With that and people also wondering why they haven't got any Thanks ratings (and seeming miffed because of it!), it's starting to look more and more like that horribly competitive rating count thing...0 -
Folks these things take time to come and work. Many people haven't noticed it yet. I understand the instinct actions against it - but in time this is a very useful way to go. Let's leave the discussion here. I think it is very useful, and often there are other things going on which you don't know about for why decisions are made. I'm afraid this one is here to stay. Sorry.
However I am going to get rid of posts/thanks so it just says Post CountMartin Lewis, Money Saving Expert.
