Correct?
exactly.....you don't wanna thank yourself0 -
This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

just seems unnecessary to me
totally agree
i like the idea of the "thanks" button in a way
cos some people defo just add "thank you" posts to boost their post count for some mad reason
maybe the higher the post count the more important u become eh ?
however i very much dislike the bit next to avatar that says "thanked x times in x posts"
whats the crack with that ???
how can this info be of any use whatsoever?
fair enough if u want to say how many "thanks" people have received
but the "in so many posts" bit is just madness
sorry to however thought this bit of info was a good idea - but i think its pants0 -
if a person asks a question and gets 4 answers that are of help, or 4 people answer with similar replies, then the person needs to now put 4 thank you's in the 1 thread, adding 4 more sections to the thread.0

I agree, I cant see how this "thanked so many times" is any diffrent to the "reputation" feature we all hated. I already feel left out because I havent got any thanks.
Not liking that idea0 -

thanks for letting us know about feeling left out, I hope you feel better soon. Does seem a little bit egotistical - whilst manners and recognition important, may not reflect good advice etc.0 -
Sorry, didnt mean to moan but I do feel it's in a similar vein to the reputation feature that was tried a few weeks ago and, like you say, doesnt necessarily mean someone gave good advice.....0

If it is to remain, maybe the statistics bits should be removed - leaving only thankyous under posts.
Would mean it still highlights useful posts but make it less likely for people to thank their pals to boost each others numbers0 -
Well, can't please everyone. I tried my best to get this hack working and now some of you seem to think it will turn the forum into an even more competitive battleground.
I can understand that some of you are comparing your postcounts and now you feel like there is yet another thing to beat each other with. But the bottom line is, the post thank you hack is here for a purpose: it decreases database usage and saves space, as well as making threads less full of posts that don't contribute towards the topic.
As you view the thread you may notice the differences from this example:
Join Date: Mar 2004
Location: Kent
Posts/Thanks: 1,979/2
Thanked 5 Times in 3 Posts
the /2 represents the number of times you have thanked someone. w/o the hack that would have been 1,979+2 = 1981 posts
just don't use it if you would not have posted in the thread anyway... but like anything else that is new, people will get used to it and 2 weeks from today, they would be wondering how they ever survived w/o it
i have just suspended the error messages previously happening, let me know of any problems after using the hack0
