It will be wonderful to be free of debt and able to save.
I wonder if you have any chance of getting your husband to pay off his debts too so that you will both be in the position to enjoy having money to spend on the nicer things in life. Otherwise you might find you are not able to do the things you want to because he can't afford to.
Just a thought for the future. Different attitudes to money can be so difficult in a relationship.
Thanks Moneywhizz for popping in.
Yes I have been trying to get hubby to pay a bit more off his debt. He has a loan and 2 credit cards. The loan only has about 18 months left on that so we are not too worried about that but I do wish he would try and pay a bit more off his cards. The trouble is he has only worked part time since he had his accident so he doesn't earn much. Lately though he has been getting a bit of fill-in work at another firm on his days off from his main job. I have been trying to persuade him to pay a bit more off. I think he is secretly hoping that once mine are paid I will crack on with his. I have to keep reminding him that most of mine started out as his in the first place! The worst thing I did was transfer his debt to my name. He didn't learn his lesson as he didn't need to try and pay it himself. I'm not doing it again though. He can pay his own! lol :rotfl:LBM 01/03/12 Debt £[STRIKE]27924[/STRIKE]

You are right not to pay it off again. Maybe he will learn when you are jetting off on some lovely holiday that he can't afford because of his debt! :cool:0

Sometimes just the little things make you feel good along the way..... like today I got a letter from Barclaycard confirming that my final payment has been made on the card I just paid off. My payment plan on that card has come to an end as it is settled and the account is now closed.
I know I knew this anyway once I had paid it, but it is nice to see it in writing. I have proof for a start and it feels that bit more final!
Just one more to go and I'm done!
Pay day on Friday so I'm close to making another payment and updating my signature on here.... still waiting for my payslip so I don't know how much I can pay yet.... roll on Friday!:TLBM 01/03/12 Debt £[STRIKE]27924[/STRIKE]

Well payday is here again but this month I am doing things differently. I have paid just £120 off my remaining card and kept a chunk of money in my account. I have decided to try and get christmas sorted this month and then I can just concentrate full on at paying the last debt off. I am hoping to pay quite a bit more off my debt this month but I wanted to get the presents sorted first then see what I have left.
I'm quite enjoying doing a bit of online shopping tonight even if it is not for me! I never shop for anything other than food.
My best mate kept clicking to try and win some wine glasses on F book so I logged onto the site that sells them and they were doing an offer £24 for 6. 6 is too much for her. She would prob only use 2. Then I thought mum & sis may like them too so I bought 6 and will split them into 3 pairs and buy gift boxes to put them in. Then I got bro-in laws for £9 and nieces for £5 (reduced from a tenner). Dad wants whisky and luckily enough we were gifted a really expensive bottle and we can't stand it so his has turned out to be free & mum wants a top in the sale for £20. So far I have got 7 gifts for £58 (averaging £9 each) and I have enough crafty stuff and blank cards to make cards for my nearest and dearest. I'll just get cheap ones for the rest.
I wonder what next christmas will be like when I have money in the bank at last! It may be easier but I am quite enjoying keeping it simple and hunting for bargains this year!

Well I am ultra organised this year! I even have some xmas presents wrapped! I bought some wrapping paper really cheap in the new year sale last year. I chose just plain silver so I could use it through the year for birthdays and I still have 2 rolls left. Plus while looking for the gift stickers ( 99p for a pack of 100!) I found a box with some leftover cards in. So I should manage to avoid having to buy cards this year too! I have made a card already for my parents with some craft stuff I have and made it comical and personal to them. I still have a way to go but I'm about half way there already!
It will be so good to have xmas sorted so far before and then I can crack on with my debt!
All I can think about is how I have 4 more months of payments! I keep trying to find ways to reduce it further so I can get down to 3 but it is pretty impossible. I could never pay off a full month extra I don't think...... However I could reduce it so my final payment is significantly lower.... I am starting to lack patience now it is getting so close but I don't know what else I can do to get it closer.... I have exhausted all money making avenues over the last couple of years! :rotfl:LBM 01/03/12 Debt £[STRIKE]27924[/STRIKE]

Well I am struggling this month to pay any extra off my debt. Things keep on cropping up that I hadn't planned for and I have spent way more than I have intended to on xmas presents! (and still not got them all!)
The real problem that I have found when economising during my DMP is "other people". It would be really easy if you just plodded on on your own but "other people" alway scupper your plans.
This month My female friends have all planned a girly pre-xmas meal , work are having an xmas party, my cousin popped over from Oz and has decided to get married while she is here with all her family and we got 2 weeks notice! My sister has decided to have a birthday party for my niece and two of our best mates are having a joint birthday party! I have so far managed to get out of the works do by lying and saying it is on the same night as my sisters do!
I'm finding thought that now I'm nearing the end, it is not bothering me as much..... I kind of feel like saying "sod it! Lets spend some cash and have a good time for once." even if it means me being a month later in paying off my debt!
I really need to curb my spending, get my serious head back on and crack on! I think maybe once xmas is out of the way I will feel a lot more determined to pay that last bit off!LBM 01/03/12 Debt £[STRIKE]27924[/STRIKE]

I know it has been a couple of weeks since I last popped in to update my diary and the reason is that I am really struggling this month!
It has just been one of those months I think where you are trying to get ready for christmas then all of a sudden a load more things pop up.
I have got through the most of it but I have run out of money and it is still a week off payday! Groan!
On the plus side, I have enough food in to last until then and I am off work this week so I don't really need to do anything or go anywhere.
I am not sure if I am going to be able to pay any extra off this pay day either as I still have quite a few christmas presents to buy.... I just can't wait to get it out of the way and get stuck in to my debt again!
Hope everyone else is doing well and achieving their goals! :TLBM 01/03/12 Debt £[STRIKE]27924[/STRIKE]

Got my wage slip this morning so I have been able to work out what I can pay off my debt this month and update my signature!
I'm a bit premature as i don't get paid until Tuesday but I couldn't wait! So on Tuesday I will be down to £1906!!!
I know it is still nearly 2k but to see it start with a "1" is fantastic!!
I think I will have to find a spare £6 from somewhere and get that rounded off to £1900 too!!
I have allowed myself £300 for xmas presents but I am going to try not to spend it all and whatever is left over that will go off my debt also!
I am still on track for becoming debt free in February. It really feels like no time at all now. It is so hard to believe that I will actually be free of the debt that I have had all of my adult life!!
:T:T:T I CAN'T WAIT!!!!!!!!! :T:T:TLBM 01/03/12 Debt £[STRIKE]27924[/STRIKE]

I am finding it really hard now that I am nearing the end of my debt plan to stay focussed! I used to think that I would go mental and try absolutely anything possible to clear the last bit off asap, but now I'm there it is like I can't be bothered anymore! I find that I am forcing myself to save money, pay a bit extra, do surveys etc.... I guess that it is because the pressure is off but I am having to really make myself stay on track to keep to my plan and deadline.
I have also found that most of the people who I was following on here and who were following me, have vanished! Three of my MSE forum friends have just disappeared! It is a bit off putting having a diary on here and not knowing if you are actually talking to anyone or not! Ha ha! I keep thinking "Am I just writing to myself now?" But I am guessing that there are lurkers out there that read it but don't say hi, so I will carry on to the end.... It would be a bit pointless getting so far with my diary and then giving up. I just wish my old money saving buddies were still around..... I am missing them and wish I knew how they are getting on....:(LBM 01/03/12 Debt £[STRIKE]27924[/STRIKE]
