  • Hi GMOOD I came across your diary 2 nights ago while I was looking for some inspiration to help me with my own debt of £16000 as I started a DMP with step change last June, I started to read your updates and I was so inspired with how positive and dedicated you are dealing with the highs and lows of the dreaded debt world. You gave me some great ideas ie nectar surveys in which I will be starting tonight ;) looking forward to reading about the rest of your journey in getting out of debt and cannot wait till 2018 when mine is finally paid off. Good luck your doing fantastic
    PS Iv subscribed lol
  • Hi Savers99!! Thanks so much for popping in to say hi!! I really appreciate your support!! I have maybe three months left of my plan now and all I can say is that it's been so much easier than I ever thought and the time has gone by so much faster than I ever thought! I wish so much that I had done it sooner as I have been in debt about 20 years but only Really done something about it three years ago. The main points of getting debt free are from my experience 1) admitting that you are in a mess and deciding that once and for all you are going to do something about it and get it sorted 2) believing in yourself and getting in that mindframe to succeed and managing to stay in that mindframe 3) getting some support on here, logging things, staying focussed and just general perseverance. I found that after getting tips and reading diaries on here you get a whole new purpose in life and getting out of debt becomes less embarrassing and less of a chore and more of a hobby!
I found that treating it as a hobby and following a few diaries on here and kind of making it a fun and interesting thing to do really helped me.... In fact I kind of think that I will miss all this dairy malarkey once I'm debt free.... I've met some really good people and been on their journeys as they have been on mine. I am so glad that you found my diary inspirational. I have struggled for so long with debt that I know exactly how horrible it can be and the whole purpose of my diary was to help others. I struggled when I started out to find someone who was in the same position who could tell me what to expect so I decided to map my journey to give others an idea....
I wish you all the best in your journey to becoming debt free... please feel free to contact me if you want some advice or just a natter!!
    Good luck

  • Well I'm having a rotten day today! I'm absolutely smothered in a cold, I'm frozen even though the heating is on, It's pouring with rain out and blowing a gale so a dog walk is not looking very likely either.
I could have busied myself getting organised for my charity walk next year but the charity I am trying to support have gone all quiet on me and won't acknowledge any of my communications. They are on F book every day trying to drum up more "likes" but I'm trying to drum up some money for them and they don't seem interested! I have been looking at other charities that are already registered on Just Giving so if all fails with my local charity I can quickly set up a donation page with an existing charity. I need a new goal for when my debt is paid and I get very impatient when I have something in mind. I can't wait to get started!

On the debt front, I have come in at £50 less than Budget on my xmas present spend but I haven't paid it off my debt yet. I want to wait until pay day just to make sure I don't leave myself short if I suddenly realise I have forgotten something! I am back up to £30 already on my Nectar card after spending all my points a couple of months ago, so that will get knocked off my groceries sometime soon and the money I have saved will transfer to my debt.
I can't wait until payday on Friday to pay another chunk off. (though I will need to be careful as I don't get paid for 5 weeks after that due to it being early this month) Hopefully after Friday's payment I will only have 2 more months to go!! EEEkkkk!!!!

Well I hope you are all having a better Sunday than me... I'm off to do the housework and then fester with a lemsip and a box of tissues!

  • So feeling your pain Gmood. I think lurgies should be banned this time of year - it's just not festive. You've got time to recover before the day if you rest and take care of yourself though. Maybe some Christmas Pudding Vodka would help? It worked for me :rotfl:

Well done on the budgeting. I'm getting so excited for you.

    Keep warm

Hang in there GMOOD, you are so close now and doing so well.

I too am full of cold and have lost my voice (to the familys delight lol) and coughing my head off. I have not left the house today as it looks miserable out and was lucky enough to get someone to do the horses for me.

I need to regroup and refocus as although I am not in debt I am not saving as much money as I used to throw at the debt so perhaps next year when you are DF we can discuss tatics as you will be in the same boat :D

Hope you feel better soon x
  • Two more payments and you have paid off approx £27000 in under three years. Just think what you will be able to save in that time. Soon be time to start making plans for these savings. What a great feeling that will be!:j

Strange that the charity don't seem very interested. Most charities are crying out fir fund raisers. I'm sure you won't find any problem finding one to support.

Hope you are feeling better soon. X
  • Hi Fortune, Lam and Monewhizz, thanks for popping in.....

Fortune I hope you are feeling better.... my lurgie seems to have been a quick 3 day episode and I' ok again now! Phew!! I haven't got any christmas pudding vodka made this year but my blackberry whisky is due to have the blackberries removed so I may just have a sample before i put it away to mature a bit more...

Lam, I think I will be in the same boat as you and not saving as much as I am paying off my debt.... The temptation to have treats after being in debt for so long may be a bit too hard to resist!! We do need to have a brainstorming session on how to save!!

Moneywhizz, I can't wait to be free and saving up!! I can't believe I have paid so much off or that very soon I will be finally, totally out of debt!! It is a strange feeling... one I have never known!!
Yes it is very odd re the charity.... Someone sent me a one line message on Sunday promising me they would ring me yesterday but again I heard nothing.... Maybe they are just busy but It's not like I want much of their time..... I'm trying to raise them some money, you'd think it would be worth a quick phone call! I wish they would just say yes or no then I know where I stand. I have another charity lined up if I can't get it sorted soon though. I have a funny feeling this one will suddenly show interest after I've organised to support someone else though! You know how things go.... lol...

Hope you are all having a good week so far..... I'm forgetting about Christmas and counting down the days until payday instead!! Can't wait to update my total!! :T

  • Just popping on to revise my signature as my wage slip has arrived! Hooray!!! So on Friday when I have transferred as much as I can afford this month, I will be down to £1308!!!!:j:j:j:j:j

That is less than my lowest debt was when I had 11 debts!! I feel so much more chilled about it now.... it doesn't seem like I'm in such a rush to pay it now as I know that in 2 or at the worst 3 more payments it will all be gone. It is like the weight has already been lifted off my shoulders..... Such a nice feeling!!!
