Hi GMOOD - found your diary - will subscribe.

Yay to extra nectar points. I very rarely go to Sainsburys but I do the adpoints and occasionally like to day working near one and got bread and milk. I have £6.31 on points so far :)

How sad about the cat. Could you go to that farm and ask if they have seen it?

    Hi LAM,
    Welcome to my diary!

I literally work next door to Sainsburys and have to pass it to get home so it's ideal for me. Oh and you've just reminded me to do my adpoints! Thanks!

Hubby asked the farm about the cat today but she wasn't there, I'll have to probably go round the houses nearby too or put a poster up. I'm still hoping she will just wander back home. It's early days yet I guess! A few years ago she came home covered in diesel! Literally dripping in it like she'd fallen in a barrel of it! I was worried sick she'd die if she licked her fur to try and clean it. We washed her in the shower which she absolutely hated and it didn't make any difference. She was still soaked in it. We were about to take her to the vet and she ran off and we didn't see her for days so we presumed she had gone off and died. She turned up about 2 weeks later, all nice and clean and demanding food! She probably has another home somewhere that she goes to! Usually when she goes off on a wander she comes home not wanting food as if shes been fed elsewhere. Fingers crossed eh?

    :)

  • I'm having a proper stress today!! Something happened that I have been wishing for for a while now but It didn't quite work out as I had wanted! I got head hunted for a job! I have worked in my current job for 15 years and I really do like it but the hours are long and I have fancied a change for a while. Today my ex boss rang me and offered me a job paying 2 & 1/2 times my current salary!! The only problem is I hate my ex boss, he is an absolute nightmare to work for (and he hasn't changed, I know a lad working for him now and he says everyone but the owner hates him!) its also an hours drive each way from home, It is a position which I've never done before and would hate to do! Cold calling / telesales etc. And it's longer hours AND weekends!
When I told my hubby he was all up for it! He was dreaming of giving up work and letting me earn a fortune in a job I would hate! But a tiny part of me is thinking could I do a job I didn't like and work with someone who drives me insane just to get the cash? AAARRGghhhhh!!! I'm so stressed about it. I'm mainly thinking that it would be a bad move and it's not all about the money but then I'm in debt and it seems foolish to say no!
Oh and the cat is still missing :( And I'm craving wine and a take-away! Lol! Maybe I'll just opt for an early night and hope that I'm less stressy tomorrow!
Hope you all are having a great day!
    GMOOD xx

  • We spend so much of our lives in the workplace - 11 and 1/2 years according to some studies. That's a long time to be unhappy not to mention the impact of the stress on your health. But then earning more money could mean you are less stressed and happier despite having a horrible boss. Would you be able to find another job in a hurry if you need to?

What's the job security like? Remember you don't have any employment rights in the first 2 years.

Very true Fortune, I thought of the "more money less stressed" thing but the hours would be so long that I'd never have time to enjoy myself. I already work between 49 and 55 hours a week and struggle to get time to have fun after I've done all the jobs at home etc. This new job, with the added commute would be even longer hours. I'm not sure I would find another job either if I didn't like it... This is the first one I've been offered in 15 years.... I've hunted around before when going through bad periods at my current job but had little success. There are so few jobs around and people don't seem to want you if you've not done the exact same job before. My head is saying "yes" but my heart is saying "no". I'm thinking now that I'd probably rather sacrifice being in debt for the rest of the year than get a job I'm unhappy in and pay it off sooner.... I think..... :rotfl:

  • It sounds as though your head should be saying "No" too. 15 years service would at least give you some redundancy money if the worst came to the worst. And how long could you tough it out in a job you hate? You might become ill with the stress and, with short service, what sick pay would you be entitled to?

As you say, it's not just about money - there's job security, benefits and entitlements, being happy at work, impact on your health, time commitment, prospects, colleagues, etc, etc.

I can empathise with your dilemma - Mr F and I have toyed with my going back to work. If I went back to the City we could pay our mortgage off in 3 years  But the price we'd have to pay would be too high.

Just my opinion and only you can make the best decision for you.

    Thank you Fortune!!

Wise words!! I totally agree!! My mind is made up now, I'm staying where I am. The money sounds good but it's just not worth the risk and potential stress and unhappiness. I will hopefully be debt free by the end of the year and then I may even be able to downscale my job and find something with less hours and something that I really enjoy. Money isn't everything is it.

    Cheers :T

You are definitely making right decision, I am considering giving one of my jobs in and my main one as I have very different opinions to others. I think the time would be nice spent at home exercising and having a little more me time.
Take care hope cat returns soon. I had a mega bad day today lol. Xx

  • Well done for making that decision!!!!! You had enough info to tell yourself that you would be miserable!!!! Nothing is worth that. Better to pay debt off slowly and not be a headcase I think!

    Good luck
