I am currently with Wanadoo on their £17.99 2Mb 512kpbs service. Cannot get over 512 in my area, however do want unlimited or near as. Plusnet seemed the best but after reading previous not sure, 5 years seem to be a long time to contract to.
Please, does neone know who has cheapest unlimited download offer, 512 kpbs is fine cant receive higher. I dont use loads neway but go through spurts of use when family or friends stay.
Appreciate ne input ta. Been on comparison sites only to be confused! If only I'd found this site sooner!! :think:0 -
Tesco.net is £17.99 for 512, unlimited. I have been with them since they started bb and before that with dial up. Apart from one initial problem have had no problems0

zazizam is £17.99 unlimited - or £15.99 unlimited with their phone option as well
hope this helps0 -
MY understanding is that Plusnet charges only relate to anyone who has never had BB before and who needs Plusnet to provide the connection hardware. If u already have the BB hardware from previous ISP then there is no charge at all for cancellation on monthly contract and no tie-in period. (I think u pay a one off £11.99 extra at start to go monthly contract as opposed to annual then u are tied only to one month). If u need them to provide the hardware then yes the (reducing)cancellation charges come into play but if u need that many ISP's charge £50-£60 at start so whats the difference?
I am not 100% certain this is correct but I am 99.9%I will be corrected if anyone knows different.

Before choosing any broadband package be aware that you get what you pay for, try not to tie yourself to a 12 month contract, read all the small print, be aware that unlimited does not necessarily mean unlimited because of the so-called 'fair use policy' used by some ISP's. Browse around the forums and discussion groups. Talktalk for example sell the product as unlimited but are now throttling certain downloads 24/7, they used to do it between 4pm and 12pm but obviously have made a new year resolution to put paid to P2P on their network. People have a good word for Zen who offer unlimited downloads, monthly contracts and a fixed contention ratio0

cheap broadbands are euro1net.com, 1mb unlimited use, about £9 a month, free join up. But take out contract.
Also Fast4, 2mb about £9 a month. Others not cheap at £15 and £17 a month0 -
Keep away from Fast4. They are VERY difficult to get away from.
I hope you get fixed up soon.0 -
Could somebody kindly explain to me in layman's terms what this contention ratio is? I am looking to get Broadband (new customer) and have read all sorts of sites and the smallprint but am none the wiser! I'm happy with a 1GB monthly limit but want the best for my money. I'm also not keen to enter in to a contract that may cause problems when we move home (Forces and moved on often, also abroad!). Any advice please would be welcome. Am considering the Tesco Value package? Thanks.0

I am tempted by V21's 8MB broadband for £9.98 per month. However, I do not have broadband at the moment, so the application page is saying that there will be an extra charge for a modem (£29.99) plus a one-off Activation charge of £47.00 which is apparently for BT to activate my telephone line for broadband.
My questions are:- can anyone tell me if the £47.00 charge is a legitimate BT charge that I would have to pay whoever I sign up with? I understand there are companies who offer free set up - does this cover this BT charge? Effectively this £47 would equate to paying £14 per month for the 1st year's use - are there any providers out there who charge less than this per month and offer free set up and also don't tie you in for more than a year? Also if the free set up includes a modem, do you have to return it if you move to a different provider?
Also, with regard to a modem there would obviously be no charge if I provide my own. To this end I did a quick search on ebay for "usb modem" and it returned 484 items, with lots of different specifications and jargon. We don't play any games on the internet so all we need to do is basic surfing. Can anyone tell me what I should be looking for in a modem, or recommend an adequate make and model please?
I'm sorry to ask so many questions all at the same time. Many thanks for any help that can be given on any of the above.0 -
this is really just a moan, but why is this company called UKOnline? it should be ENGLANDOnline!!0
