What about actually phoning them to see if they answer?

So on a long thread like this with the majority saying what a good service they have had from Auto Aid you take serious note of a first post by someone who hasn't even logged on since.

    Phone them if your concerned

Seems that the number was read out incorrectly to me so apologies but all is fine. As I said in my earlier post, Autoaid have always been great.

Optimist - as a new user of this site, I wasn't aware I needed to log on daily????????? Perhaps you should give people the benefit of the doubt (assume your username is some sort of joke!)

thanks optimist for your input but i wasn't aware of the unwritten rules. you know what? occasionally i've had experience of companies not exactly telling the truth when it comes to their current financial position (including ones i've even worked for). so in this current economic situation and the fact that it was the most recent post on the thread by about a month it was quite possible that things had changed and maybe someone had heard something not properly in the public domain. it's paid off in time and effort to check this things in advance and i'm not going to change my methods now thank you very much. i'm obviously not as much an optimist as you.

dave - thanks for getting back, this is the first time i've checked the thread too so your reply was in good speed.

i'll now quite happily go and sign up, the reviews i agree are excellent.
  • I've been with the AA for years and have only called them out very occasionally. My renewal quotation was £152 and when I phoned them I managed to get it down to £100. I said I'd think about it and she said they'd ring closer to the renewal date ut they didn't, I just got yet another (the 4th?) letter quoting £152.

After reading Martin's article and the threads on the forums, I have decided to bite the bullet and join AutoAid. I have just phoned and the lady was ever so friendly and helpful. Hopefully, I won't need to use them but, if I do, I hope the service is as good.
  • I happenned to be tidying out my car out yesterday when I noticed mt Autoaid policy ran out 24 hours previously! I had not received a reminder but I set up a new policy so I am good for another 12 months cover from midnight tonight. (Will mark the renewal date on the 2010 calender)

21 June 2009: On holiday in Eastbourne. Flat battery. Called AutoAid. A few minutes later got text message from a local garage saying they would be with me within 30 minutes. A few minutes after receiving the text message I got a phone call from the garage asking for credit card details to pay the cost: £48.30. Within ten minutes the mechanic arrived. He got me on the road within a few minutes.

27 June 2009: I sent off a completed Claim Form to AutoAid Claims Department.

30 June 2009: I received the invoice from the garage, stamped "PAID".

6 July 2009: I received a letter from the AutoAid Claims Department asking for the original invoice.

12 July 2009: I sent the invoice to AutoAid Claims Department.

    25 July 2009: Cheque for £48.30 received.

I;m in my second year of Auto Aid membership. Had no reason to call them last year, however I've had call to use Auto Aid four times this year. Twice for home start type issues, on both occasions cheques have been promptly dispatched

Then on our summer holiday this year the clutch went while visiting Legoland at the end of our first week.

We called AutoAid and they arranged for OnTime Recovery to come an return us back to our caravan site as local garages would be closed. They also agreed for us to call them (AutoAid) back the next morning to take the broken car to a local garage.

The service was as ok - though ironically the OnTime truck took 2hrs to get to us - 1hr over the stated time. However the subsequent call the next day (Dorking Autos) truck arived after only 40mins having been quoted an hour.

Posted off the two invoices and cheques arrived a week later - happily before my credit card bill :-) will certainly renew again next year.
