i can even claim to get my car towed now from my own home to a local garage, even though the car is busted.. i am sure the AA dont do that for you!

I am pretty sure that these days none of them will leave your car somewhere unattended e.g. at a garage that's closed.
That's the problem with a litigious society. They will only drop it off is someone is available at the garage to accept it.
Therefore it's preety common these days to take you home if it's out of hours and then tow to a garage when they are open.

what happens if the invoices dont come through in time.. does autoaid extend the time period if you call them?
No offence, but why don't you ask AutoAid your questions.
I've never claimed but the impression I get is that they are very good.
I don't see any reason to believe that they would hamper your claim or try to trip you up to avoid paying.
But if your (or anyone else) is overly anxious about the pay & claim system, then you should get a different policy that isn't pay & claim.
I get a differnt policies for my elderly parents because they would have trouble handling the correspondance at 80+.

This is my third year with AutoAid. I have used the service only once in January when the cold weather flattened my car battery. Despite being very busy on one of the coldest weekends of the winter the local garage was with me at my home address within 15 minutes and had my battery up and running within 5 minutes. The mechanic did not realise I was supposed to pay up front until I mentioned it. He made a quick call to the office and I was told to ring and pay by debit or credit card and I'd be sent an invoice by return. The invoice arrived within the week and AutoAid paid by return. All completely stress free. I would highly recommend them.

My second year of AutoAid cover. I try to keep my vehicles in good condition, so I really didn't think I'd ever use the cover.

However, I broke down on the evening of Easter Sunday. My camper van engine blew, so that was the end of that. I needed a tow home, but home was well over 150 miles away. I made a call to AutoAid and they sorted everything out.

The recovery bill was embarrassingly high (very close to £400 with all the mileage), but AutoAid's cheque turned up with no problem. The only thing they don't cover is toll roads and bridges (e.g. in my case the Severn Bridge). The customer has to pay for that.

They were very professional and efficient. Highly recommeded.
  • Has anyone used AutoAid for help with a flat tyre? The only time I've used my RAC cover is for this. AutoAid mention that their service covers repairs if the vehicle is 'immobile' and while I'm guessing a flat tyre is included I'd appreciate hearing from anyone who has experience of this before I purchase the policy.

A flat tyre means breakdown, as the vehicle cannot be driven,(legally or safely), and whilst it does not mention it specifically in the policy document, neither does it list it in the exclusions, so by definition is included.

I rang them last year to ask that specific question plus, re running out of petrol and locking keys inside/loosing keys, and was told all, in their eyes constitute a breakdown and would be covered.

I needed AutoAid today after my wheel fused on after a puncture.
Was promised rescuing within the hour. After an hour phoned up and was told would have to wait another 20 minutes as they were busy. Luckily some guys from a tyre shop stopped booted the wheel a few times until it snapped free and replaced it for me. Cancelled my call out, which was easy to do, but not overly impressed with AutoAid at the moment.

My daughter was with AA. The only occasion she had to call them out (broken down on main road in pouring rain), she sat there for more than two hours before callling me at home in desperation. I went out with a tow rope and towed her home.

Apologies from AA, who said they were extremely busy due to lousy weather.

It must happen with EVERY rescue service from time to time. Obvious really, planetbrain!
