I decided against it as the phone i wanted wasn't available online. Maybe in the future if a phone I really want comes out ill give it ago. I'd be interested to know how you guys get on at the end of the 12 months if your pufl are still intact and if you are eligible for another one.
I've had a new phone twice now - last one June 09 - so we'll have to wait and see what June / July brings.

I upgraded online 3 weeks ago, I chose the stay on same contract option and got a Nokia 6303. I was offered a Nokia 5800 and a few other ones but went for the 6303. My online bill date is today and it is still showing that my contract renewal date as unknown and my contract length as unknown, am not too worried if they do end my tarriff after 12 months as it is not really a lot of use to me these days I have 200 off peak minutes to landlines and o2 numbers so I end up having to take out another contact that I can use during the day and for x network call, and then having to carry 2 phones round because most people call me on the o2 number because I have had it for so long and that is the one they know best.

Don't get the O2 Zest - battery life is terrible

Think you can get a gadget now on something like dealextreme.com that allows you to have two SIMs in one phone
  • Took a look at the O2 upgrade site a few days ago and there were a good few free phones available (best maybe being the Sony W995 or Nokia 5800.

Unfortunately they've changed their tarrifs as of today and there are even less free phones than before. Basically one low end Sony, one low end Nokia and I think maybe a Samsung. Alternatively you can have £50 credit on your bill.

Sorry to bring the bad news, but still better than nothing isn't it?

Some phones now cost a lot of money, although one or two that were free are still quite reasonable at £50.

    I think I will purchase a Nokia X6

This model says it has satnav - does this need to be connected to the internet all the time to work?

It does assisted GPS (via mobile phone towers) which costs and it will also try to connect to the internet for traffic updates. But you turn this all off in the settings and just have the built in GPS (which is free). You can also connect via Wi-fi at home for free to get updates.

It takes forever to get a signal though (as your meant to use it with the assisted GPS), so don't expect it to be the same as a sat nav in speed, but it does work. Due to the slowness of the GPS, not sure it would work well as a sat nav, but quite a useful gadget if needed it in an emergency.

Nokia's also have free Nokia Maps which is pretty good.

I felt it was the best of the phones on offer as it had wi-fi and an ok camera and touchscreen - it's a great little phone

When you upgraded a few days ago were there any options to go for a high end upgrade phone and pay extra cash to get it ?

    regards

If you follow the O2 upgrade procedure there is an option to "stay with your existing contract" - then as you add each phone it displays either 'free' or the cost.
