I was given a sample of Clinique toner once and after using it I looked like a burns victim for over a week! It's pretty dangerous stuff especially as I'm not allergic to anything and don't have sensitive skin.

Thats awful, i hope you took it in and complained

Have to say i wouldnt put it anywhere near my face, save it for polishing the furniture !

I use basic Witch Hazel BP (not a brand name one) as a skin cleanser and Nivea soft as a moisturiser, twice a day. If I get a spot, I dab surgical spirit on it. I used to use all these fancy face firmers and wrinkle lifters! until I read that some ingredients encouraged the growth of facial hair! some things with AHAs and fruit acids or whatever they're called, so I don't use them now. Haven't noticed any difference in my skin. I am tempted to try the Rosehip oil that has been mentioned on here though.

Anyway I was finding it really hard to buy natural products and read that a certain person in the BB house used coconut and olive oil on her skin. I have tried both as a cleanser and they seem to work. I am not sure if you should use both together but they make my skin feel really soft.
I get my coconut oil from Akamuti it's great stuff, I've never had anything like it before that makes my skin so soft and you can use it on your face or body. You can also use it as a hair conditioner but I've never tried that yet!

I think Liz Earle is wonderful too, I can't see it not suiting anyone.
I use Boots cucumber cleanser (super cheap) but wash it off with water - that is the tone bit taken care of. ATM I'm using Olay Regenerist day moisturiser but I find Aldi stuff is brilliant, don't think I'll pay £20 again, just not worth it.

That's interesting, as I also use Olay Regenerist daily moisturier. How does the Aldi moisturiser compare with this, and what is it called. I shop at Aldi and must say, I never even noticed they do moisturiser, although we always use their shower gels (49p) which I would recommend!

Thanks all for all the comments!

I think I will work my way (sparingly!) through my current collection including all the above brands as mentioned and then give some of these new ideas a whirl.

Quite a few people have mentioned Liz Earle but it still seems quite pricey so I might have to investigate all these lovely cheaper options.

Thank you again though. Glad I asked now. :rotfl:

    Hi all

You can get rose water from Sally hair and Beauty Supplies. Its open to the public as well as trade just cheaper for trade, so take your hairdresser along if you can!
You can also get make-up remover, moisturiser etc there in good size tubs that wil last for ages and is really good on your skin. That and cosmetic pads etc. I get 500 for £2.99 +vat (minus staff discount). Thats a good few months worth, but when you're removing make up every day you get through them!

I too use the boots cucumber cleanser and wash off with really cold water. Use the cucumber facial scrub occasionally if my skin feels like it needs a bit of an exfoliate. Also use the eye make up remover from the same range. Rinsing off with really cold water acts like a toner. I have quite sensitive dry skin and I find this fine.

For moisturiser, i use just plain old nivea. My nan and my mum before me both used it and they have fantastic skin for their ages and I have been complimented on my skin and that I dont look my age. I slap on loads at night and then a little bit less in the day.

I personally feel I need to use any of the expensive brands with vitamin this and fruit acid that in when the boots range and good old nivea does me fine and id recommend any of these products.

  • Use a splash of cold water after cleansing, and then a tiny amount of moisturiser. To be honest if you really want to be moneysaving then look in your cupboard for raw products. Sorry to say this but would you eat Clinique products....i dont think so!....so therefore dont put it on your skin. Through all of my training i learnt alot of lessons about these products and waht actually goes into them.....be warned they hurt your bank balance and your skin in the long run. If you need any advice on the raw products just ask i may be able to help and give some tips!

ps. rosewater is excellent for your skin but you can make your own easily with a few rose petals.

I used to use Creme de la Mer but recently have changed to good ol' navy pot classic Nivea. There is, worryingly, very little difference in appearance or smell between the two.

And of course £1 per pot rather than £60+ is definitely a plus.
