Cleanse, Tone and Moisturise!

Well here's a thing.....
..... I understand that OS involves passing on ideas from various generations! Now, my mum always told me that you should cleanse, tone and moisturise twice a day and her nan always told her the same!
I must say she looks great for doing so too!
Problem is this...... I use:
Eye makeup remover £4.99
Clarins cleanser £16.00
Clinique toner £28.00
Clinique moisturiser £35.00

Now I am trying to adapt much of my life/ways to accomodate all I've learnt from MSE and OS in particular but would welcome any ideas on what I should be doing in this are.
What are your daily skincare routines?
(I hope this post is acceptable? Let me know if not!)

I used to use clinique dramatically different moisturiser until I read an article that said it is just vaseline and has no effects better than a cheap moisturiser would have.
So my tip would be to research on the internet - find out what would be best for your skin and hat active ingredients you should be looking for.
Don't just go for a brand.
By the way I use Oil of Olay and find it much better. The Best Things in Life Are Free0 -
Your routine is fine but the products you are using are very expensive. I'm sure the quality is magnificant but have you considered trialing ranges that are a little more economically priced?
Lots of people will probably post their routines and prefered products but at the end of the day it is YOUR skin you will be schlepping it onto and only YOU will know if you are happy with anything other than what you are currently using.
Mrs MATH swears by Liz Earle, still a premium award winning skin care range but much cheaper than clinique.
I would advise getting a few testers or blagging a few trial sizes to test for yourself. No one cosmetic house is at the top of it's game on every product so I would recomend taking the best from each line and creating your own mix 'n' match.

Clinique toner is the liquid of the devil!!
I used it all through my twenties and thought the reason my face was tingling was because it was doing its job... it was really far too strong. The sales assistant once told me it was very good at removing fake tan from areas like hands etc. Something strong enough to do that isnt going on my face again.
I then moved on to La Prairie which is more than double the price, and whilst I liked it, I didnt see my face was beneffiting from it.
Then once I got into soap making I decided to use that on my face, followed by rose water. My skin is lovely now and I get comments about my baby soft skin:A0 -
...same for me, cleanse, tone, moisturise - being more careful to shift any make up if I have any on.
I tend to use Simple cleanser, toner and moisturiser if I can get hold of it because my skin is very sensitive and it's really inert! I try to stock up for the year just after Christmas as quite often it comes in gifts sets which I can pick up for less. I also find that I can offset the cost of face/hair stuff by using my advantage card to my advantage!
I was given some Sanctuary stuff this year, but the orange stuff with the bits in just reminds me of Swarfega and it makes my face itch.
In terms of OS style stuff I also find if I have any excess yogurt, I can use that as a face mask every so often and it really soothes the skin. Also used (cold!) camomile tea bags are great for soothing tired eyes (and far better than most of the commercial gels designed for that). Porridge oats and dried lavander in a muslin bag (or tied up in tights material) will soften the bath water too.:staradmin:starmod: beware of geeks bearing .gifs...:starmod::staradmin:starmod: Whoever said "nothing is impossible" obviously never tried to nail jelly to a tree :starmod:0 -
Would second the Liz Earle recommendation!
Smells wonderful too!Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most.....0 -
Scotgirl, is that right about Clinique? I have used it for years, don't pay full price as OH travels a lot and always brings my back Clinique from duty free. I can't stand the Sanctuary stuff, i've got a few bits of it lying around and keep meaning to ebay it!
I love Superdrug's own make eye make up remover - it's blue and 99p! I have white eyelashes (I'm very pale) and use black mascara, and this is the best stuff I've ever found for removing your mascara, it just glides over your eyes and removes everything. I've also found Tescos own really cheapy 99p face cream to be good, the night cream certainly is worth splashing out on! Not every Tescos sells it but I've found that's good.
Do you need to cleanse, tone and moisture? I ask only because I use Dove soap and then moisturiser. I remember going to a thing at Frasers or somewhere in London years ago and a beauty consultant being absolutely horrified because I didn't have a routine. I always found toner of any sort to be too harsh, although it did remove all the dirt!0 -
I think Liz Earle is wonderful too, I can't see it not suiting anyone.
I use Boots cucumber cleanser (super cheap) but wash it off with water - that is the tone bit taken care of. ATM I'm using Olay Regenerist day moisturiser but I find Aldi stuff is brilliant, don't think I'll pay £20 again, just not worth it.0 -
i have to say i'm a clarins girl. its not cheap but i use it sparingly and always buy it when there are bonus buys or 1000 bonus advantage points. i might do some research about trying something else, but i have at least a years worth stash at the moment....Mum to gorgeous baby boy born Sept 2010:j0

Hmmm... thanks! :j Some interesting comments so far.
It's definitely given me food for thought - especially the info about the clinique stuff.
I always buy from boots - hence my large advantage card balance in my signature but definitely still need to find a cheaper brand that works for me.
MATH/Cannylass - can you tell me where I would buy Liz Earle?
Angelina-M - Any tips on where to start soap making. Would you mind PMing me if you've got some ideas. Thanks!Wandered away from the MSE track for a while but am back and on a mission! Debts cleared nearly £18k. Now to start saving ...0 -
My friends mum has fabulous skin and she has always cleansed, toned and moisturised. So I've been trying to do the same - when I remember!
I use Virgin Vie Vitamin C collection - when I can get it off ebay at a good price!!"A simple life freely chosen is a source of strength. Do not be pursuaded into buying what you do not need or cannot afford." Quaker Faith & Practice 1.02.410
