gift for new baby.. £10 each seems a bit steep. You can get lovely things for babies very cheaply. Can you suggest buying a nice little outfit or sweet toy and some flowers for the mum?

When I had to do this recently I volunteered to go and buy the present. I shopped around and bought a beautiful outfit and some nice wrapping paper and everyone was very grateful to me for doing it. So I didn't tell them I'd only put in £2 myself - I considered my care in choosing was my contribution.

gift for mugged friend - yes definitely, but don't spend lots, your sympathy and company will be the best gift you can give.

I've cancelled my hair colouring appointment - phew! back on the rails.

Just dropping by to say well done to everyone. I'm full of admiration Seaxwyn that you cancelled you colouring appt! I'm succeeding so far in not booking one! But I'm very tempted.

Seaxwyn, well done on cancelling hair colour .. that was a tough call but you pulled through. And I'm sure the cut has worked wonders on it's own anyway.

Thanks for advice. I think I'm going to wait until this challenge is over (and my next payday) and get something on my own .. Mothercare are doing some great offers at the moment.

And re my friend ... I think you're right, she really needs the company (and maybe a huge bar of chocolate .. which I won't be sharing of course because I've also given up chocolate for lent!!)

    Hi,everyone,

Monday and Tuesday were NSD's for me because I didn't go out.

Today I had a planned-for shopping trip to my nearest large city.I bought a few things in M&S,but I used vouchers that I was given for Christmas so it didn't cost me anything.I also bought a few other items which I had budgetted for.

I'm afraid I did buy a coffee,I can't survive for 5 hours without a cup of coffee, but I didn't buy a toasted panini/cake which I would normally have with the coffee so that saved me around £3.I was starving by the time I got home though.
I handed over a £10 note to pay for my coffee and I was pathetically pleased to receive two £2 coins in my change,I haven't had one for ages.I used a £5 note to buy some fruit off the market rather than one of the aforementioned £2 coins and got another one in my change. So that is £6 to go into my £2 coin tin.

Tomorrow and Friday will be NSD's because I am not going out anywhere and my meals are planned for the rest of the week,so I am feeling quite pleased with myself.

    Hello everyone and thanks brassiclint.

NSD for me despite working in Islington. If it hadn't been for this challenge I would definitely have bought my mum an upmarket Mother's Day card and some cute but pointless gift in one of the boutiques that abound up there. I even entered one shop, looked at the price of a card, £4.50! No way.

I will buy a card as my mum is lovely and deserves it but I'll try to match ShirleyPark's 89p - where did you get that one, Shirley?

Back to Islington tomorrow but I know I can do it.

Wilkinsons. Though if I bought it on a saturday there's a shop that sells really nice cards for 29p, but that's probably only useful if you live in Southampton.
