PPI Reclaiming Discussion Part 5

  • Hi all,

I am new to this and have a problem I hope someone can help with?

I had a capital one credit card which I took out in 2005 and paid off and cancelled in 2009. Only recently when shredding old statements I noticed an old Capital One statement which showed I was paying almost £5 per month for payment insurance.

At the time of taking the card out I was living at home with parents and had no need for PPI. Capital One also didn't ask me if if I wanted the cover, didn't check if I had any existing cover and I can't seem to find any paperwork at all that they should have sent giving me more information.

I drafted a complaint letter and sent it off at the beginning of March. I heard nothing so called Capital One on the 12th to check if they had received it, I was told that the post code for the complaint dept on their website is wrong so I would have to resend the letter using the correct post code. I then resent the letter using recorded post and I can see from the tracking number that it was delivered and signed for on the 15th.

I have just called Capital One again to make sure that someone is looking at my letter and have been told that they can no longer trace my account and there is nothing they can do. I gave them all my personal details and card details but apparently I have disappeared from their system. I called back and spoke to someone else (in case the first person was at it) however I was told the same, that my details cannot be traced. The person I spoke to on the 12th of March didn't seem to have any issue at all in finding my details. I was told this evening simply to try sending a third letter. When I mentioned that I had proof of delivery for my last letter I was told that didn't matter and the only thing I can try is sending another copy.

This is obviously going to be a tough fight to get any kind of response from Cap One, never mind one in my favour so does anyone think there is any point in pursuing this? I don't wany to fight Cap One with countless calls and emails if you think it is a waste of time?

    Any help is appreciated!

    Send a Sar

    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/1475553

This will find you, as the account is closed they may have archived the data and they may not be able to find you, enclose £10 and give them 40 days to respond.
When you have all the details you need then send copies of these with your complaint.
  • Thanks, i'll give that a try.

I still think they are at it, I don't understand how all my details were there a week ago and now they are gone. It seems a bit fishy to me!

I'll send the SAR tomorrow and see what happens.

...has anyone got the best address to send a SAR to for a NatWest Credit Card, would it be NatWest or RBS, the NatWest website states that any correspondence should go via the local branch but I have had experience of things going missing when dealing with a branch, would I send to the companys registered office or to customer services..?
  • They said I took out the ppi in 2001 3 years after I opened my accountx

I'm in exactly the same boat with Egg/Barclaycard. They should have responded by 20th March, called them and they said they need more time to get the original application form. Think it's just stalling tactics. I'm going to call them every Tuesday for 3 weeks and if not resolved to my satisfaction then I'll be off to the FOS.

Yep I did wonder if it was staling tactics, the bloke on the phone told me it was a very small team dealing with the egg/barclaycard claims and they needed more staff to cope with the volume of claims received  think I'll also be ringing them every week until its sorted, I'm getting a little impatient now

The small team/lots of claims was the exact same line I got. I'm fully expecting to have to go to the FOS with them. Egg were awful to deal with and it seems Barclaycard are taking the same attitude. Funny that the "Sorry, I'm a tad busy" argument would not work if you owed them money.

    Hello again.
I contacted Northern Rock today after they wrote to me. I mentioned that I had 2 loans with them, but they said that they didn't show up on their system. This meant they probably didn't have any PPI attached to them.
Do you think they are telling the truth and is it worth pursuing?

NR said that the PPi they wrote to me about was a loan that finished years ago.

Is it common that there is PPi on mortgages?
