PPI Reclaiming Discussion Part 5
Comments

Hi, not sure if I am in the right place ...3 or 4 years ago Premium Reclaim rang me about a ppi claim against Paragon. I went ahead with the claim through them with very little correspondence from them. During the claim I did have the financial ombudsman ring me and the ladies words after quite a lengthy discussion was that if she thought there was a case she would get premium reclaim to take it to the next stage if her decision was a no then i would know by the end of that week. Still not hearing anything i rang them and finally got a response saying my claim was with their solicitor. I decided once again to contact them as no news and all my emails have bounced back and on telephoning them the number no longer exists. Does anybody know if Premium Reclaim have vanished and if so where do I stand now. Sorry its a bit lengthy any help would be greatly appreciated.

This company had authorisation cancelled in November last year, if it is this company.
Doubt they will be doing the claim or making a charge for this, contact FOS and ask what you should do, you may be able to do the claim on your own, you also need to know who the solicitor is in case they continue the claim and charge you if you win, contact them too.0 -
Hello There
Its my first posting here as i am looking for a little advice please?
Regarding PPI i have had a handful of credit cards over the years, not missed any payments and most are now paid off in full. I took out the cards (and niavely signed for PPI) when the following was the case:
- Worked full time in a management capacity
- Would have received 6 months full pay & 6 months half pay if been ill
- Had an income protection policy in place since 1999 for 50% of salary of circa £60k at the time.
In short i didnt need PPI but when i tried to cancel it in 2006, then 2008 and then again in 2011 i was 'frightened' into keeping it each time by the telesales person stating i 'wouldnt be covered if the worst happened' but still never asking me if i was already adequately covered.
My circumstances changed in 2004 as i was made redundant but i didnt claim with the state or on PPI as my other policies covered me for a time. When these ran out and i tried to claim on my Egg ppi i ws told i wasnt actually covered as I didnt have a previous 3 months NI payments (this is because I didnt sign on!)
Anyway - I became self employed in 2006 and all was fine.
I re-claimed my PPI from MBNA last year during all the publicity as it had bugged me for years what a waste my PPI policies had been. i claimed on the basis i was already covered with my policies and I won a refund.
Egg (now Barclaycard) however declined a refund on the basis that i 'signed for it willingly on line', and i was therefore not advised in any way (and therefore not mis-sold) and that enough information was available at the time for me to choose it or not.
The truth is i dont actually remember what i read at the time, if anything, and whether it asked me if i was already covered. My generation was the one bought up to believe that PPI went with a loan / card. Rightly or wrongly!.
So Barclaycard have turned me down but im still convinced i was a) paying for something I didnt need and tried to cancel several times and b) when i was actually made redundant it didnt pay out anyway as i was already covered!!
Does anyone have any opinions or thoughts on this please? Im tempted to write to them again or go straight to the FOS for their opinion? I feel this was a cop out!
Many thanks in advance

It doesnt need to ask you if you are already covered. When you buy something without an individual involved, there are no requirements to check things.when i was actually made redundant it didnt pay out anyway as i was already covered!!
From what you said, it was because you didnt register as unemployed. If you dont sign on, they wont pay out. The FOS are quite happy with that condition.m tempted to write to them again or go straight to the FOS for their opinion?
You can go to the FOS. You may get lucky but your complaint is weak and you were not mis-sold. You would be reliant on a technical failure of it the amount is small, you may get lucky if they agree to settle to avoid the FOS fee.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). I have had a PPI claim upheld by FirstPlus (part of Barclays) who "as a gesture of goodwill" have upheld my claim. This was on 14th November 2013 and the 'Acceptance Form" was duly signed and sent on 1st December. I called on 3rd January 2014 to chase up (0845 number) as per their promise of payment within 4 weeks - at which point I was informed there was a problem as my wife needed to be contacted to verify her address (at the time of the loan/PPI we lived at a different address but no attempt was made by FirstPlus to contact me or my wife at my current address to verify this!). My wife duly called them and eventually managed to persuade them of her correct address. FirstPlus said they would "email the relevant department" to process the payment.
I called again on 10th January to chase up. I was informed that they would "email the relevant department" to process the payment and that it would take no longer than 28 days; in fact it was more likely to be much "sooner than that". My wife chased again a week or so ago and was informed that they would "email the relevant department". They refused to give the contact number of the said relevant department so that we could go straight to them - clearly the 'helpdesk' are not able to help once the claims are sent to another department.
I am rapidly losing faith and cannot understand why we cannot even be told why there is a delay, particularly as the "relevant department" has been unable to simply process a claim that has already been upheld, within 5 weeks (notwithstanding those first 4 weeks when they simply sat on the paperwork without contacting us).
Does anyone have any tips as to what I can do to speed things up?
Many thanks.0 -
Where do I start... My dad mentioned today about PPI and how he had paid this many times over the years with Midland Bank (HSBC) on loans, the mortgage and perhaps Credit Card. He also believes he has paid it on Car Finance Loans - not with the bank.
Would he stand a chance at getting any of it back? And if there is a chance how and where do I start?
Any help gratefully appreciated.0 -
Hi,
I wonder if you could help me, I am a little confused and need someone to help me sort out what I think maybe a claim for PPI. I opened a credit card with MBNA in 1998, I was young and naïve and was told by them that taking out Payment Protection was the thing to do and if I didn't and suddenly got sick I could end up in big trouble. I did this and was successful in getting a card. I was pretty good at paying off the minimum payment each month until around 2003 when I found myself back at college. I had a debt of around £600 at the time and started to struggle paying back the debt, I missed payments and it all got a little messy. All this time I was paying Payment Protection and this was going up and up. Sometimes as high as £30 a month.
I finally sorted myself out and paid off my card in 2005 and have always felt that I had be cheated out of money, I even remember asking them what the payment protection was for if it didn't protect me if I couldn't pay. I still have all the statements from the very beginning.
So my main question is do I have a claim do you think? Should I contact MBNA through their website or send them a letter from this site.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Being "young and naive" is not a valid complaint reason either.
Nothing you have said indicates any mis-sale, but you can still complain if you can find some valid reasons to do so;

Hi, I have rang rbs and found out I had ppi on 3 loans 1 taken out in 1997 and 2 consolatating loans in 1998. I had no details of loans or loan amounts probably biggest was for £5000 but they gave me account numbers. I think I have a valid claim as in 1999 I was made redundant and I agreed with rbs to make smaller payments the loan was eventually paid off in 2006. I can not believe I had ppi on the loans, I may not have got into so much debt which then affected my credit. Just wondering if anyone has had luck reclaiming in a similar situation.0

You stand a good chance with the fact you were made redundant and you made lower payments, the fact these were consolidated is even better due to the way the rebate works when each loan was settled.
When you took a loan out to repay the previous, you would have received a rebate of the PPI, the remaining PPI would have been repaid by you in the settlement figure with the funds from the new loan... you in effect repay most of the PPI back from each new loan you take out to consolidate.0
