    Hi everyone

I'm trying to help out my inlaws who have taken out secured loans with PPI as they were led to believe they needed to take it with the loan or they wouldn't be accepted. They weren't advised that the PPI was only for 5 years either.

They have filled in the form that is available on this site and they have had a very snotty letter back from GE saying they are not responsible as they did not sell the PPI to them, Freedom Finance did and they are no longer so the complaint is closed.

Is that it, is there anything else we can do?

I am reading about how to do this and other peoples experiences but thought I may be wasting my time if Freedom are responsible and they have gone bust. So thought I would ask in this thread.

Thanks in advance for anyone who can shed some light / guide me in the right direction!

The seller is responsible. Not the lender. That is unless the lender is also the seller (e.g. like branch based banking) So, GE are saying they didnt sell it. Freedom Finance did. So you complain to Freedom Finance. However, if they are no longer trading then a key date comes into play. If it was taken out before 14 January 2005, the complaint is over. If it was after that date then they can refer their complaint to the FSCS.

  • Hi Everyone,

I'm looking for a bit of advice please; I was made redundant from a well paid job five years ago and at the time had two credit cards and a store card on which I had PPI for some time.
I contacted the companies (Barlcaycard, Egg and House of Fraser) and they all said I needed a form from the Job Centre, which I duly got and forwarded on to them all.
None of the three paid out or acknowledged receipt despite sending via recorded delivery.
Due to personal circumstances I suffered from severe depression during that time and am only now rebuilding and looking to put everything back on track.
My problem is that if they had paid as they should have done then I may have not been left in such dire straits and may not have suffered so badly. I was out of work for over 18 months so if they had paid as planned then it would have not left me in such a financial hole.
The damage to my credit rating and health have meant I have endured a difficult few years and I'd be grateful of any advice as to how I should proceed?
    Thanks everyone in advance.

  • Hi;

First post on here and could really do with some advice.

Last year I put a PPI claim in against Halifax which they rejected so i contacted FOS. 2 months ago i received a reply from the FOS saying they wern't upholding the complaint and a detailed explaination on the reasons for this.
I appealed as the original reason for my complaint was not covered by the explanation. (forcefull selling).
Today i have received a phone call from the FOS saying they still would not be upholding the complaint due to fact that it was my only my word against Halifax. (i am unable to provide any documents relating to the claim). My concern is that they also told me that Halifax had also not been able to provide information which i thought they had to if requested.
FOS said that i could appeal and i would receive a letter from them in the next few days. Although it would be very unlikley that the result would change.

I was wondering what you guys think and is it worth appealing?

    Thanks

I'm afraid you made a "hearsay" type complaint for which you will never be able to provide evidence. It's basically your word against the bank's.

You have already exhausted all avenues with this and making a further appeal to FOS would just be delaying (by several more months) the inevitable final rejection.

    Time to move on...
  • Thanks Moneyineptitude.
You've confirmed what i was thinking. No point in wasting more time on it. : )
  • Hi everyone, I am new to this so bare with me, I have already made a claim to a PPI company well over a year ago, the only contact they have made is when the asked me to resend relevant paperwork which I did, about 4 or 5 months ago. Then I had a call from the bank saying they were sorry about my complaint and would be looking into it, this was about 3 weeks ago, then I received a letter again from the bank saying they would award me some money I have 28 days to accept it. Now here is my question has this come from the bank due to the PPI company writing to them so they have decided to try and settle with an amount before it goes to far with the PPI company or is this from the PPI company although it hasn't come from the PPI company, so do I settle with the bank or wait and see what comes back from the company, sorry if this is confusing but I am confused aswell, I know if the PPI company obtain money for me they will take a cut but this is not mentioned in the letter from the bank. Can anyone help what would you do. Thanks

the bank deal with you and then it's up to you to pay the company, who will probably be bombarding you with texts and calls to pay up before long.

Don't assume they've forgotten or don't know about it. The bank wil have told them too.

Sorry Hattiesdad, but your post is SPAM
  • I would like some advise please on the possibility of claiming PPI, on a loan on a joint account that was over 10 years ago and was paid off through a debt relief order last year. My husband and I are divorced and I wondered if I am able to claim back any PPI that was sold on that loan.

    Many thanks.
