    Hi there.

Perhaps my poor choice of words. This was a very large loan secured on my home, nothing else. I received nothing in relation to this claim 4 years ago nor since apart from today and so believed it to be an unsuccessful attempt by Belmont Thornton.

The letter from First Plus states that back in 2009 they were unable to uphold our complaint but as an ongoing commitment to their customers. They have reviewed it again (obviously recently) and have stated they are now unable to verify the product was suitable for our needs and so are refunding.
Been up the creek without a paddle to now seeing light at the end of the tunnel. :T

Earlier this year I contacted Belmont Thornton to sever any contact but have received today a letter asking for fees as First Plus sent them the same letter.

I just want to know if I still have to pay them or as it has been so long and with a failed attempt so many years ago that I do not have to pay their fees now.

    Thank you
    Sammi

Unless you and confirmation that the claims company ended your contract I think you have to pay them.

As I have no confirmation I will agree with you. It was done verbally over the phone which was silly of me, but after so many years I didn't think I would hear anything else.

No matter. The money I will receive is money I never thought I would get back, so I should be grateful.

    Thank you Pink

Hi we have recently tried to claim back mis sold PPI from GE Money, they said they are not responsible we had to go to the place that sold it to us which was Pearly Grey in Tenerife, we didnt do that as we thought they would just tell us to do one so we went to the ombusman and they have just told us we can not do anything because we signed for it in spain! Should we go to Pearly Grey now or are we wasting our time?:(

They will probably dismiss your complaint because they aren't regulated.

With PPI, you are complaining about the sale of it. Not the actual product. So, the seller is liable. Hence why GE have no liability.

The problem you have is that PPI is largely an FSA issue. Not a legal one. You used a Spanish company who was not regulated by the FSA. So, chances are Pearly Grey will tell you to take a hike. You can try as you never know but expect that outcome.

  • Hiya, first time poster seeking advice. I had 2 or 3 personal loans through HFC bank over probably 10 years all having ppi, my last one I think finished about 2005/6 time. I have no paperwork from any of them and have written to them asking for them to look into it, they've written back saying they have no records as they only keep them for 6 years after an account is closed (as per regulations), so where should I go next ?
    Thanks in advance

  • So, after my wife had a claim upheld on similar circumstances with First Direct, I thought I would give it a go myself with my Halifax Personal Loans.

Sent the form in a few weeks ago and got a call on Wednesday requesting more information.

They honestly wanted me to remember information from 2000, why I wanted the loan etc.

They even asked me how many times I had changed my car!! When I asked why that was pertinent, he said that if it was every three years or so, the loan shouldn't have been allowed to run more than that??

My argument is that I receive sick pay, redundancy pay, death in service benefit and that I should never have been sold the PPI as I didnt require it.

On that basis, do I have a case? As I say, First Direct pay out £15k to my wife on that basis, just getting itchy now that they have called for more information.

I did ask how many claimaints receive a call for more information, and he claimed almost 99%. That can't be right can it?

    Can anyone reassure me???

Yes I think its right with Halifax they phoned me up and asked questions dating back to 1995 from when i first applied for my CC I couldn't remember which I said so, so I could not give them any help and they turned me down so I had to send mine off to FOS but as long you you be truthful have have prof that you got good sick pay and so and you didnt ask or agree for PPI you should be fine.

My problem was I applied in the branch as it was my first CC and they say I agreed to PPI I dont know if I did but the forms says I did and I also got good sick pay and so on but the company went bust in 1998 so I have no contract or anything so not holding my breath.

    Good luck
  • Thanks Pink1808

I was honest on the phone, call seemed to take ages (actually only 22 minutes) but I gave all the information I could remember.

He didn't actually ask me if I remembered the sale of the PPI, he only asked about benefits I received from my work which was strange....

Have to wait and see, said I would get a reply by the 28th August which is inside the 8 weeks.
