PPI Reclaiming Discussion Part 5

Hello, hoping I can get a bit of help with my claim against miss sold PPI with a Lloyds CC. I've had a Lloyds CC since the early 90's and believe I took out PPI when I was signed up by the bank at a student freshers fair. I paid PPI over several years and tried to cancel the policy back in 2001. I was living and working abroad mainly in Norway and Ireland between 1994-2005 and after reading various articles about PPI validity whilst living and working aboard I rang someone at Lloyds who assured me the policy would pay out if I lost my job outside the UK. Is this correct? I was doubtful at the time and my claim has been rejected, they even claim that this is the date when I took out the policy. I have tried to tell them during a number of phone calls that this is actually the date when I first attempted to cancel the policy not the date when I took out the policy. I finally cancelled the policy in 2006 when I returned to the UK and became a full time post graduate student. Any advice gratefully recieved.0

why did they reject you?I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. Hi dunstonh,
Lloyds claim that I applied for credit card PPI policy in 2001. I think it because I made the mistake of ringing them to make my claim. I tried to explain that I tried to cancel the policy in 2001 but the lady who spoke to me in the Phillipines thought that this was the date that I took out the policy. I rang them back and told them I had already been paying PPI well before this date.
They claim that at the time of sale I was eligible for PPI and that the policy was suitable in that I did not have means by which I could protect the payments (not true), that I was not suffering any pre-existing medical conditions (chronic asthma) and that I was not significantly affected by any exclusions or limitations associated with my PPI policy.
The reason I tried to cancel the policy back in 2001 was because I had read various reports that the policy didn't cover people working abroad, but now I'm a little confussed as to whether this indeed is the case.0 -

I have been going through my paperwork and it seems that I was paying 2 insurance policies for my mortgage.
The first one was with Countrywide Assured. We had a Homepurchase plan which included:
Critical Illness Benefit
Mortgage Payment Protection Insurance
Death Benefit
Countrywide say that the mortgage part is not MPPI so we have no claim. We took this out with our first mortgage in 2000 and was told we had to have all this to get a mortgage. In approx 2005 I spoke to Countrywide about removing some of these benefits after other people told me they had mortgages without them. They agreed and my policy went from £65 per month to £46 after removing the Mortgage and Critical Illness Benefits.
The 2nd policy was with Britannia who have now agreed that we was paying for cover that we did not need. They have wrote to me and said that they are prepared to refund 50% of premiums paid and that I should contact Countrywide to claim the rest.
1. Should I accept the 50% or ask for the full amount as they have admitted that I was paying for something I didn't need.
2. Are Countrywide correct in saying that this is not the same as MPPI?
Any advice welcome.
Can anyone help with this please???0 -
They are not correct, it is MPPI, but if it was a condition of the mortgage then there is no misselling.
Why would Britannia refund something that someone else sold you and who you were paying?Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0 -
Hi there I took out a loan with HSPF and think they have mis sold me ppi but my friend told me I can't reclaim this because it began in oct 2010 is this right? :mad:0

You can complain about misselling PPI but you have to have good reasons.
Single premium on loans was phased out in 2009, so that's one complaint reason gone.
What other reasons would you have for complaint?Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0 -
Could anyone help with this?
I'd like to try claiming PPI on a Barclaycard account which was settled more than 6 years ago, I have no statements so have sent a SAR.
What happens if they say the have no statements?I Hate Jobsworths!!!0 -
Your complaint is over because you can't show you paid PPI.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0

Hopefully I'm now in the system and they look at my claim. At lest I have reference number now. Fingers crossed.
Got my claim upheld and settlement of £7325!:T Well I haven't got the settlement yet, the letter states within 4 weeks. Do Barclaycard normally stick to that?0
