They are not correct, it is MPPI, but if it was a condition of the mortgage then there is no misselling.

Why would Britannia refund something that someone else sold you and who you were paying?

    Hi
    Thanks for your reply.

I had another policy with Britannia after remortgaging a few years later and I did not realise that this had MPPI on it until I rang them about it. They have agreed to pay 50% as I was covered by countrywide for the same thing and they advised me to contact them. But now countrywide are saying its not MPPI and I cannot claim?:(
  • Not a success story as of yet, but an interesting (and hopefully promising) turn of events.

Following the guides on here, I sent a letter off to HSBC for what I remember as been 2 loans with PPI back around 2000. I had no details at all of these though, so basically complained "blind" using the Ombudsman template.

Today I received an acknowledgement letter telling me it would be 8 weeks. Interestingly though:
    • The letter was sent addressed to my full name, including my middle name, which wasn't what I used on my original letter.
    • The letter referenced 3 accounts, complete with policy numbers that I recognize as starting with the 6 digit sort code of my local branch.

So hopefully they can't possibly come back now and claim they have no record of me as it was 13 years ago, as their holding letter contains information I certainly never gave them! Since I ceased banking with them at the termination of these loans its not like they'd still have me on their books under other stuff.

They still have to agree it was mis-sold to you, of course. In addition they can ask you to provide proof that you paid the PPI if they no longer have such records.
So you're not quite out of the woods yet.

Oh yeah, I get there is a way to go yet, I'm just amused/surprised that they seem to have (accidentally?) negated what seems to be the "easy" way out that they seem to have tried with others. Especially as I said I had 2 loans with PPI and they've come back referencing details of 3!

I think you're mistaking circumstances where the Bank have genuinely deleted account details with a deliberate policy of giving mis-information.
In my own case, not only did HSBC acknowledge my complaint, they reminded me of two further loans I'd had with them and not included.

    Could anyone help with this?

I'd like to try claiming PPI on a Barclaycard account which was settled more than 6 years ago, I have no statements so have sent a SAR.

What happens if they say the have no statements?
Did you request all financial information they hold on you and not just specific items?.
Did you have PPI, were you mis sold and have the card number? if you do then make the claim, if you could afford to repay the card in any eventuality, had life insurance, a good sick package from work and maybe savings?, then use these as reasons for mis sell too.
  • Just a post to say be careful, there is a lot of wrong information being posted on this thread as if it were fact.

If you have any questions it's best to call fos, who can give the correct information. as I say, misleading information is abundant on here.
  • Advise needed. I sent off my HSBC PPI claim to the Ombudsmen, after about ayear I have received a copy of a letter to HSBC upholding one on my claims - amount£1600. HSBC had until the 28th June to respond. What time lengths am I lookingat? Should HSBC respond to me or directly with the Ombudsmen? Thanks

They should repond to you but they are not rapid at redress. The ombudsman can't force them to give you your moeny back at a certain time, so basically, you're looking at waiting till they contact you, and it may take a while. You'll have to be patient.
