Hi i was hoping someone could help. I am trying to put a claim for PPI with Santander and i have got a letter back requesting my Ni premiums for when i opened the account, back in 2002. I was told that this wouldn't effect my claim if i couldn't send these details to them but 2 weeks later i got a letter back saying my claim had been closed due to them not receiving this and the only way they will re open this is if i send the details.

Has any one else had this request? and i don't quite understand what my NI contributions have to do with someone on a Till selling me PPI when i had told them on 2 occasions that i didn't want it.

    Thank you

There really isn't any point in prevaricating about details requested by the Bank as part of their investigation. If you want a successful complaint, provide any information that the Bank reasonably request.

Nothing to stop you asking why the Bank are asking for these though...

    Hi folks

I sent a copy of the first claims template to my ex mortgage company, Oakwood Homeloans on 9/4/13. They have replied saying a full DSAR will include all correspondence from the account and will be surplus to my requirements.
    They have requested I: -
send a reply stating exactly what items I require
send a copy of my passport
    send £10 cheque

They have also stated that the 40day period in which they need to provide the information will not begin until they have received all of the above.

Is this all correct/ above board?

    What do I do now?

    Please advise.

    Many thanks

Personally, I would ask for all information they hold, they may cherry pick what they want to send from what you request.
You may end up with loads of " rubbish " that is not needed but at least you know you have everything.
  • Dear Moneyineptitude

Thanks for confirming that this is an above board request and this is the way I should proceed.

Describing in exact detail the items I require is the bit I want to clarify now please as I don't wish to shoot myself in the foot by phrasing anything incorrectly. Do I ask for "any charges on my account" or "any charges associated with PPI on my account" or is there another phrase accepted in the industry that is clearer?

    Many thanks

. Do I ask for "any charges on my account"
Why would you ask about charges? Bank charges are a totally separate issue and you cannot reclaim these unless you fill their "hardship" criteria.
or "any charges associated with PPI on my account"
Why not just ask for everything they have on file for you? That's what a Subject Access Request (SAR) is for.

    There is an excellent template letter you can use here;

Do realise that if all you want to know is if you have ever paid PPI then just ring them up and ask them. Cost=nil.

Just had a letter back from my bank this morning saying that they are upholding my complaint...but they are still investigating how much I paid so they will send me an offer within 4 weeks. They said I can go the Ombudsman as the 8 weeks have elapsed (but there's no point seeing as they have said they're going to uphold it!)
I have no idea what to expect as I just chanced my arm when I sent in the form from this site.

That was the first one I did, but I have sent another 2 and have a further 3 to print and send.

Many thanks to this site, as without it I would never have done anything about it.
  • Anyone out there sucessfully claimed from lloyds tsb whilst on a Dmp and had a cheque from them rather than debt offset? And yes one of the debts is with them.....

    Well for anyone that's interested.....

Lloyds tsb upheld my complaint and a cheque arrived on my doorstep this morning (no question if I would of preferred the money offset against my arrears or if I wanted cash?)

All the letter mentioned was that the interest paid was from the PPI start date untill the date my account was sent over to collections.

    A nice surprise!

Hope this assists anyone else in similar situation to myself.

Hi :-) I have posted a thread here regarding my story

    Sorry I can't post direct links yet. Just add the h t t p :-)
    forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.php?t=4586783

I shall now ask via phone and letters if I am entitled to any PPI recompense from HSBC and ALL the other companies I have borrowed from these last 24years.

I shall also ask about unfair charges.

I am 100% sure that the 2 issues are 1 in my HSBC case and overlap into each other. This is going to take some serious concentration from me to follow, but with help from here, perhaps I can bring an end to my own dilemmas.

I shall update as news arrives & post word for word any replies. My case should at least allow others to learn from any info I upload :-)

Thank you thus far for all the information, it is so encouraging to somone like me. Without all the information in here I would never have found the strength of mind to even try.

    All the best, yours Anthony.
