Give them until next Friday, if you still have not received this then contact FOS and put a complaint in, this is ridiculous, if they had sent a letter in October, you should have received this by now, delaying tactic if you ask me.

    Thanks for the reply ...
As is typical with these, the copy letter promised appeared on Saturday, just after I'd had a review meeting at the bank and mentioned this and the lady said she'd also chase it for me. It didn't have any copy of the FOS's leaflet that was said to be enclosed on the letter ... but the original confirmation letter I received didn't either
Anyway, they're saying I "applied for your credit card PPI policy on the phone" (don't remember that at all but it's all so long ago) and that they would have provided me with all the information necessary for me to make an informed choice to take out or not take out the insurance (ie that it was down to me to know if what was covered would have been covered elsewhere - by my employer in this case)
Also noticed that this letter only quotes 2 of the 3 credit card numbers I gave them originally

Is there anything to gain in taking this any further since I just can't remember anything about this after 12years? So really it's down to my word against theirs

    the PPI premium was £504
    For chunkymonkey.
This was the PPI that you originally paid, the redress they have given you looks good, you have the whole PPI back with the interest on those.

This is good for a loan that is so long ago, the calculation may be out a few pounds but if I were you, I would take the offer.

Contact the bank and ask about the other 2 claims you have with them.

If the bank won't deal with you regarding this and the letter is a final response, I would send this to FOS, make it known that you have only just received this letter and disagree with the response, just because the bank said they "followed procedure" and rejected this, does not mean that they did, let the FOS know that you could have paid this card back in any eventuality, life insurance good sick benefit from work etc and ask for the bank to provide proof that this was taken over the phone and all selling procedures were adhered to.

If it is not a final response from the bank, send a letter to them and put what reasons you reject the decision on (above) and if you get no response, take it to FOS.
  • Hi, I hope someone can give me some advise. I put in a PPI claim to MBNA early last year, they came back and told me that I had taken PPI out and had ticked a box on the internet to say I wanted it (at the time I took the credit card out with Abbey National, it was only taken over by MBNA a few years ago). I was unhappy with the tone of the letter so I decided to send all the paperwork I had to the Ombudsmen in August 2012 and received a letter back from them at the beginning of December 2012 to say they are going to uphold my complaint and have writted to MBNA telling them they have to either agree to settle or take it further within the Ombudsmen and it also said they have until the 14th December to respond.
I called the FSO today and they said MBNA have still not responded but they will send them a chaser letter.
My question is does anyone know how long MBNA are taking to respond and also do the chances of MBNA settling without taking it further within the Ombudsmen look fairly good???
    Thanks

not sure if posted in right place but looking for some advice...have an ongoing claim against legal & general re critical illness misselling

my question is I received an decision from FOS saying they could not uphold decision in my favour .

they then stated at bottom of letter if I did not agree with their findings to put in writing my reasons and send any paperwork and it would be reviewed

I always thought once a decision had been made by FOS this was final so just wondering why are they prepared to review

Critical illness cover doesn't suffer from many of the failings that PPI sales had. I've yet to see anyone report success with a complaint about the sale of this kind of insurance which the vast majority of people have a clear need for, especially with mortgages.

A review of a FOS decision is available to all and is the final recourse you can take before your complaint is finally closed.
I wouldn't waste any more of their time and yours with this.
It's virtually a forgone conclusion that any review will find identically to the first.

Amount of PPI paid, plus interest associated with it as it was added to the loan amount, plus sliding 8% interest.
However, in your case, as said, it deosn't apply because you can't prove you paid it all.

Ah, OK now I see it, thanks for the explanation. By way of an update, the letter I received was dated 27th December but I only received it on Saturday 5th. Spoke to the LTSB customer services desk this morning to ask a couple of questions and found that the money had already been paid into my rather inactive account around about the date of the letter - actually the customer services desk said the payment had been sent on the 24th so before the date of the letter. Not complaining, just bemused by the turn of events.

Is a mis -sell from 1988 the oldest successful reclaim?

    Of course not.
People with comprehensive records from their own archive have been paid full redress from the 1980s.
You have only received a goodwill payment.

I claimed back PPI on a loan i took out about 5 years ago. It was upheld and i received a payment of around £1700.
Ive since found some more paperwork for a loan taken out when i was a student about 10 years ago, so I hope to claim on that too.
Now not wanting to sound too greedy, what else can I possibly claim for and how do I found out if I had PPi. I tried to claim agains VW for a car loan-they said i didnt have it. I aslo had a car from Honda using their finance, how do i found out if i took ppi out-bought the car 2006. what about my mortgage held since 1995 with RBS. Mortgage is now just basic rate (i think thats what its called) i just pay monthly amount but not fixed to any deal. Previously was tied in with deals.
If i contact the companies directly by phone, are they honest and tell the truth or do the say no you havent had ppi even if you had? (cynic in me).
  • Also, I have a John Lewis credit card, a Virgin money (took out to transfer a RBS credit card )how do i find out if i had/have ppi on those?
    Thanks
