PPI Reclaiming Discussion Part 5

Surely there was a letter with it - what did it say?0

My husband had a loan for a car which I continued to pay for six months after his death in 2005. Am I entitled to make a claim as it was a joint account it was paid through and am I too late0

Whilst watching martin on TV last night, I remember about a mortgage i took out from 1998 to 2003, where we were sold payment protection (alongside life and buildings cover which were mandatory). Although I was full time employed my husband (joint policy) was a self employed IT contractor and probably wasn't covered. The bank would have known this as he had to provide his books for the mortgage and i also distinctly remembering questioning whether it was appropriate for his needs. Anyone faced this or got any thoughts on whether we could claim? It was about £90 a month! Thanks0

What makes you think your husband wasnt covered? It is very rare to find an MPPI that does not cover the self employed.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). I had a letter from Ombudsman at the weekend, saying they have told MBNA to uphold my claim and MBNA are to "restore me back to my position if I hadn't taken out PPI".
I understand that this will cover all premiums I paid, but, in other people's experience, will this include interest I've missed out on over the years? (What about interest I was charged on the PPI premium themselves)?
I'm not expecting a large payout, but still, the cash is better in my pocket than theirs!
xDxFear is temporary, regret is forever.....:happyhear Baby girl born 27th September - 10 days late!! :happyhear0 -

The report last night mentioned that many policies don't cover self employment but perhaps that wasn't with reference to mortgage ones. Im not sure I have a copy of the old Ts and Cs so thought I'd see if anyone had any thoughts0 -
I made an application for PPI reclaim to Lloyds back in August which was rejected within a couple of weeks. I then took the opportunity to appeal that decision and did so within the 28 days of the letter date. I sent my appeal by registered post so I know the exact date of when it was received. My question is simply, how long should they take to respond to my appeal? It has now been 10 weeks since my submission and I am not sure if I should start chasing it. Can anyone advise?0

I was surprised (like many others) to find I had unwittingly in past paid PPI on loans so getting that process started now through Natwest, DFS (nova retail finance and first direct - really annoyed at those 2 as we only did 0% finance as thought we were saving money) should be around £700 that we paid out
Anyway, I also had a credit card years ago - account now closed which I am sure I wasnt happy that I kept getting charged insurance on each month - anyway I cannot find out the card details - tried the bank no help! I dont bank with them any more but I do have my old sort code and account details - should I just write and ask them?

A significant minority of PPI policies do not cover the self employed or have claim conditions that are considered to be too onerous. Typically loan and credit card PPI is where that happens. MPPI on the other hand tends not to have any such issue. You can always ask the insurer if they cover self employed if you cant find the policy docs.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). If you remained dissatisfied after receiving your "full and final" response from the Bank, the next stage of your complaint should have been to refer it to FOS:
