If my loan is from more than six years ago, and the bank say they have no records older that, is that pretty much the end of any potential claim?

Just to be clear, if it's more than 6 years since the loan finished your chances are slim, if it finished 2007 your in the 6 year window, just...
If your loans were in a consolidation chain there supposed to deal with the other loans, ie the ones before the last one & they will have records of the older ones because there related to the last loan, I would fill the fos form out as much as you can, on the additional information page put your account number, your reasons for complaining
    * you were told you couldn't have the loans without insurance
    * your employer paid full pay if you were unable to work
    * you have a phi policy quote the provider & acc number
Get your claim in ASAP as your approaching the 6 year window
    Regards

Hi, in my experience with HSBC, anything longer than 6 years ago you will need either the original loan agreement or a bank statement showing the loan transaction, there very slow & will try & fob you off,
Mbna were very quick paid me for a card I had in 2003 without me providing any documentation, I didn't even know the card number

When did your last HSBC loan finish?

The issue is not whether you have PPI or not. There is nothing wrong with having it. It is whether it was mis-sold to you or not. When you buy online there is no-one selling it to you. So, it cant be mis-sold apart from a very small number of technical reasons. So, most online PPI complaints get rejected.

Have you got any loan agreements or statements showing the initial loan transaction? If the last loan in the chain finished in the last 6 years they will have documentation, if it finished more than 6 years ago you will have to provide copies of loan agreements or statements showing initial loan transactions
  • Hardly a "diversionary tactic" if you made a data request without enclosing the fee, just an unnecessary delay not caused by them!

    Ok. That's fair. I shouldn't have overlooked that. :)

Thank you for the pointer on the letter. I might need to use it if i don't get the information that i need - this time around.
