PPI Reclaiming Discussion Part 5

Between September 2006 and October 2007 I had a loan out, I was not aware of any PPI on it until the other day I was checking old statements and saw:
08 Sep CR LOAN CAPITAL FROM 2000.00
08 Sep DR LOAN PROTECTION 473.10
08 Sep DR LOAN REPAYMENT A/C 2000.00
08 Sep CR LOAN PROTECTION 473.10
08 Sep CR LOAN CAPITAL FROM 2000.00
I don't really understand what's going on there, but it seems I had "loan protection". I'm not sure why the loan amount was credited, then the loan amount and protection were withdrawn, then credited again. I have not yet contacted the bank or anything, and I am unable to find any records beyond this. So did I actually pay PPI?
I also should clarify I didn't see the loan through to the end, the loan was consolidated with other debts (with the same bank, HSBC) and formed into another loan, this loan I am 90% sure didn't have PPI. Does that make a difference?

Easiest way to find out for sure is to ring HSBC and ask them!0 -
I have two credit cards that I am paying ppi on, can I reclaim the ppi even if I have not paid off the outstanding balance? I make the minimum payment and I am not behind with the payment. I got the cards at a motorway cafe I was stoped by a lady asked if I would like have a account and that was that, I have always had ppi but this was not explained to me at the time, please can someone tell me if I can make a claim or will they want me to repay my balance off and close the account.0

ive just had a letter back from black horse , after sending a sar and £10 cheque (i no longer have agreement number but sent old address car registration date of birth) saying "as the agreement has been closed for longer than 3 years we are unable to locate your records from the details provided it is possible that the agreement may have been removed from our system due to the time elapsed. In which case we would need a valid agreement number and then once we have a valid agreement number we would be able to send the information you have requested"
1. I thought a sar meant that they had to send me everything they hold about me?
2. If its been destroyed can i request how and when?
They have just fobbed me off from the start.
any help much appreciated0 -
Hey,
So if your complaint is not upheld (company not FOS regulated but is FLA) you can only refer to the FLA if you have new information to support your complaint which has not previously been seen.
So if you have no new information...is that the end of the road?

Thank you for the reply. Harrods have told me by mail that my branded card were provided by GE Capital Bank alone which was has been acquired by Santander and to get in touch with them. Santander have told me the account was closed so long ago they have no records for it. I still have statements from 2006 and i held the account for about 15 years before that. Any advice?0

Hi, wondered if anybody could help. I had a loan with HFC bank years ago which I have no details on but as I was quite young and remember wondering why the repayments were so high I think there's a good chance I had ppi on this, how would I find out?
Also, after this I wised up to the ppi and am sure I never wanted this on any other credit agreements when I took them out but I remember getting a phone call from mbna once with the guy being pretty insistant that I needed this ppi (I already had a credit card with them but not ppi), although I wouldn't have agreed to it I would like to check it as I remember thinking it was wierd that he'd be so insistant. How would I check this? If I ask for the original agreements it wouldn't be on them because it was after I had taken it out?

just got a ppi claim back and a return of money. it says on my letter from barclays that as a regular tax payer i may have to pay tax on the amount of 8% interest i earned. i am an employee. i obviously need to contact hmrc.
couple of questions...
does this count as my gross earnings for this tax year?
do i need to inform the tax credits people now or when i put in my next tax credits claim after april next year?
confused.
contacted them today
to answer my own questions :
yes it does my tax code has changed to pay what i owe
told the tax credits and this years award has been adjusted accordingly for my one off payment (income).
rang the hmrc tax helpline and they was...ummmm very unhelpful. 3 phone calls and 1 hour and 20 minutes later ( my phone bill)
problem was i wasnt sure what i was doing and neither were they.
oh well problems solved i have done the right thing and my conscience is clear.
hope this is helful to anyone.0 -
Apologies if this has already been covered (I've tried to search the thread), but when my husband & I took out our mortgage with the Nationwide back in 2004 we were told we had to take out mortgage protection, so we did on a 50/50 basis - however my husband was & still is self employed. Approx 4 years later, we cancelled/changed the portion of the policy that was in his name into my name as we realised it was worthless for him.
The policy is still in force - are we able to claim or would this in effect cancel part or all of the policy despite my husband no longer being named & covered?
Hope this makes sense!
