Hi all,
Would really appreciate your advice. I put in a claim with HSBC for a loan I took out after graduating in 1998. I'd initially thought this was too old but heard a success story on the money box podcast that was a similar age. HSBC has come back saying they only keep records for 6 years and can find no evidence of this loan. Although I now scan all such paperwork I didn't back then and therefore have no evidence.
Is this as far as I can take it or is there anything else I could try.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Be aware, though, they say they only hold info going back six years, so if your loans are older, without any documentation (statements, etc.), you may struggle.
Much easier to do it yourself, follow the templates and the excellent advise from the experts on here and you won't go far wrong. That way you can do it in your own time and not have to pay somebody 36% of anything you may win for doing nothing.
Best of luck
Thanks for the information.
My flexiloan was taken out on the 03/02/2006 and from the looks of my online statements it finished on the 08/10/2009 so I assume they will still be able to trace my details.
Regarding the 36%, I thought that as well as that is alot of money. I read I would have to add 8% interest onto my total amount I am claiming as well.
I will be starting my process on Monday and go from there. Definitley not here for the banks to treat me like a mug. Fair policy is all I am after.0 -

Clear?
Ah ok I think I get it. So I complain regarding the mis-selling and they will provide me the PPI as well as 8% interest?
Sorry if I sound abit "dense", I have only skimmed through the PPI procedure on here but tonight I am going to do the thorough read to start my process on Monday.0 -
Hi guys, I could do with a litle advice from the experts. I was wondering how far back I can go with PPI reclaiming and as I was not self employed would Redundancy insurance be classed as a form of PPI. I have a letter dated August 1993 informing me of an increase to my Payment Protection Plan which I was required to take out as I refused an endowment mortgage when I wanted funding for a house extension. I also notice people getting refunds from DFS and as I had a suite off them, but cannot find my paperwork, I wondered how I can check to see if I was made to take out PPI on the loan. Thanks.0

Hi, I am thinking about trying to claim PPI back but am struggling. I didn't think until a couple of days ago that I had a case. I got a text & call from one of those companies wanting to charge 33.95%(!) of anything claimed back. So I thought I would have a go myself....
I had several accounts for which I paid PPI.
2 were MBNA loans - 2nd loan replaced 1st loan. So would I need to make 2 claims?
1 was MBNA credit card but 2 account numbers (I think my card had been lost/stolen) - should I make 2 claims?
HSBC credit card - also 2 accounts - 2 claims?
There are 5 other accounts for which I was paying PPI. I don't remember whether I asked for PPI or not and I don't have all the documents; some are quite old (before 1999)
I've had a go at filling in the questionnaire for the first loan but have come to a standstill at C3 because I can't remember what debts I paid off with the loan, and at section E because I don't remember what information I was given at the time I took out the loan. Also, is believing I couldn't have the loan without the insurance a valid reason on its own for claiming?
I have no idea where to go from here and this is just the first one I've started!
Please help.0 -

There is nothing in the forms to trap you, there are just a set of general questions which apply to a multitude of different mis-selling reasons.blueloulondon wrote: »is believing I couldn't have the loan without the insurance a valid reason on its own for claiming?
Ideally you need to look for verifiable reasons for complaint. Was the PPI on your loans paid as a single monthly premium? Were you self employed or have a pre-existing medical condition? Things like that are provable, "hearsay" complaints are not.0
