Can I be as bold as to ask what it is you do? You must work for some sort of financial authority because you are hugely knowledgeable. Don't know what people would do without you.

Thanks ever so much for your comment.
I work for a large Do It Yourself chain.
I'm only so knowledgeable because I was ripped off by my
Bank to the tune of £20,000 and was determined to get it all back. (which I did!)
    Thanks again !

Hi ruth you would have had to answer several security questions when you set up your account place of birth, mothers maiden name etc they could ask you these, ring them up if you have forgotten your 6 digit number and ask them to run you through the additional questions.

Hiya sweetie! Hope all's OK with you. Thanks ever so much for your reply (also thanks to the other respondents to my post).

Alas, I have been through each and every security question with them... previous addresses, mother's ancestry, long-deceased pets, etc.... Hey-ho. As I'm still in the position of having to decide between fuel for the car, so I can get to work, or fuel for me (aka food), I guess I find it distressing sometimes to read posts like "made complaint on xyz date, cheque for £xx,xxx arrived six days later, thanks Martin, MSE and everyone who advised me on here!!!".

Don't get me wrong - I am genuinely delighted for all of the successes and progress updates here. It's just a somewhat bitter pill to swallow for those of us with a legitimate complaint/complaints who are (seemingly) waiting endlessly....

But well done to all those who have successfully reclaimed by themselves - and keep plugging away for all the others who, like me, are facing an uphill climb... :o xxx
  • Hello,
Just after a bit of advice as to whether or not I have a claim...

I bought a flat 6 years ago and got a mortgage through nationwide who insisted that I take out insurance (at the highest rate) because of my work (armed forces). I told them that I was already covered through work but they said that I would be unable to get a mortgage unless I got this cover, which I did.

The insurance they sold me was through Legal and General.

Am I able to claim this back? Also it was a joint account and my brother (who worked in a bank) was also told he had to get insurance, can he too claim this back?

Any help would be very much appreciated.

    Max

Hi Ruthie glad your ok, i know exactly what you mean, i've been lucky in recovering misold on all my loans/credit cards so far for the small amounts, i'm now concentrating on the tougher entrenched ones, These are (i think) going to be the bigger ones but of course the providers don't want to payout, as i was self employed and have now found statements i can prove i had it, not easy though is it?

It seems like you are going to be in for a bit of a struggle but at the end of the day it will be worth it. Just think once you get the details you also might have a quick cheque or two. I have my fingers crossed for you.

I don't know if anyone has suggested this (probably Moneyineptitude) but have you gone into the branch? That way you could take some ID with you which has to make the process a bit easier..

Also would a SAR (is that what it is?) request allow you to find out what you are looking for?

So here we are guys restarting on this thread this post will just give you a post or two to latch on to.

I have had a mortgage with Abbey National since 1991 & Credit Cards with HSBC, Barclaycard & TSB since the late 1970s. A Claims Management Company has advised I am entitled to PPI awards because if PPI was applied to any of these arrangements then it was done without my knowledge. However I cannot detect any reference on recent payment statements, but have destroyed all previous statements & agreements relating to these transactions. Do you think I am entitled to any refunds for mis-sold PPI or is it more likely that the Claims Management Company is merely speculating on that possibility? What is your recommendation please?

I find where to post this question in this forum complicated so I'd really appreciate any advice please?

I'd say it's far more than "likely", I'd say it was definitely the case.

I hope you find this response, as you quoted in reply to a post from 200 pages ago!

    Hi,

I wonder if you could offer some advice - I have been contacted recently by a company claiming to be a PPI claims handler, they have told me that they have investigated and found that I have been missold PPI and that they will be able to handle my claim.

The thing is I have no recollection of ever having PPI. I suspect the company contacting me may be fishing for info. and I have told them I am not interested and to stop calling.

Is it possible that they are genuine in the sense that they have uncovered a missold PPI relating to myself?

How do I find out if I have been missold PPI?

Apologies if these answers have been supplied elsewhere.

Earlier comment on my post here suggested a number of comprehensive replies to my question here, but I cannot locate them? How can I find them? Tried search, but no trace of a response? Sorry, but new to this forum!
