Contact the bank directly. Do not use any third party, even a "free"one like Resolver...

ok but what is it that makes resolver not "free"? I thought it was basically just a template...

    EDIT: I think I found a reason..

It is, but Resolver harvests the information you provide (anonymously), so there is a price.

Regardless, use of Resolver just adds a needless third party to your complaint and doesn't provide any significant advantage to complaining directly.

While this is certainly true, that's not a reason to reject it's use.

Of far more concern is the fact that it often complicates making simple complaints better sent directly to the recipient.

Absolutely agree with this! It is always so much easier to enquire or complain directly. You will receive the same reply just as quickly, but without added complications. For example.....It is unlikely that any detailed account responses will be sent directly to Resolver for Data Protection reasons. When I send these, they will always be sent directly to a customers. So as always, use Templates and Guidance where you need to, but always deal directly. You know where your data is and what it is used for by doing this!
I work in Data Protection and spend my days dealing with CMC's. Only here trying to help!!

MSE owns Resolver. Resolver sells your data in an aggregated form for profit.

Do they fully own them now? Last I heard they just had a stake in the firm

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

Back in 2015, Martin Lewis was very cagey about this:
"As part of this deal we've taken part-ownership of the company – the exact share depends on quite how much we do for it, both in support and how many MoneySavers go there. As we never like to hide these things, you'll notice the link to Resolver is 'starred', which is our way of indicating we potentially stand to gain from you clicking on it"

    Hi,

I tried applying for my various old credit cards (its amazing how many have merged in 18 years!) myself as it was relatively easy etc, often on the card firms own websites. This was about sept 2018.

However, all came back saying there was no PPI they could see.

I find that slightly unlikely given it was the last 20 years, is that a standard response, can i ask them to look again?

No, it's not a standard response. It's a response for when they can't see any PPI on your accounts.

If you believe you had it and they have it somewhere not easily accessible, you could submit a SAR.

Alternatively, you can send in your own evidence of the premiums you paid.
