Even though it was with a different company and not the same bank?

If he had a loan with bank A that was written off and that loan had PPI on it, yes they can offset it

If he had a loan with bank A and PPI on another product (say a credit card) with bank B, no the refund would not be offset

Are you saying he took out a loan with bank A but had a PPI policy from provider B?

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

  • Thank you MSE,

After years of ignoring PPI adverts, decided to follow your guide in April to look at my mortgage PPI with Halifax. After initial submission through Resolver, followed by a couple of telephone interviews (where we possibly wrongly assumed Halifax were trying to find a loophole out of paying), got a letter through yesterday confirming over £6000 payout pending! I assumed it might be around £1000 if anything, so was gobsmacked!

Thanks again MSE and Resolver! Now off to claim the tax back with R40 form!

Sorry Everyone, brand new user- don't know how this works LOL. I just had a question regarding PPI claims. If I have a company checking my PPI with lenders, can I do my own check at the same time?

Not much point if you're already agreed to give them lots of money.

You'll need to tell them who you had PPI with and why it was mis sold, but you may as well let them post the letters now. Stamps aren't cheap these days.

Why would you do that? You had two options at the start and you chose the potentially expensive one if you have a valid claim. There is no point spending any more of your time, or wasting any more of the firms time that you are enquiring with.

If I ask you a question, you would only expect to give me the answer once , wouldn't you?

  • When I took my first mortgage in 1998 I was told by a man at the estate agents that I needed a sickness/redundancy policy as I was on my own, he then sorted it through a broker....as this wasn’t done through a bank, and I kept the policy for years...can I claim PPI or not, no one I’ve asked seems to know!

    No. It's pre-regulation.

What interest are you claiming? The refund process for PPI is defined by the FOS

Is it a Plevin refund (unfair commission)?
