Thank you for the info.
Wessex Group provided the Payment Protection Insurance, but they weren't chosen by me - they were part of the prerequisite requirements required by the mortgage company - my actual mortgage paperwork says "igroup" as the mortgage provider, but all other paperwork, such as statements etc. came from GE Money - I'm getting more confused! When I placed my original PPI claim, it was GE Money who replied and denied the claim.
I guess that's it then? If neither company was registered with the regulators then I can't pursue it?

I've finally started to look into this, knowing that it wouldn't be straight-forward....I've checked my credit report, all's well there. But, I don't have any paperwork for anything pre that. I divorced 15 years ago and there were lots of loans, credit cards etc between 1986 and 2004, I don't know who with.....any suggestions?0

GE rejected my PPI claim in 2016 on the basis that the mortgage was taken out before they were registered with FCO and referred me to the broker at the time.
Sounds correct.I had no luck tracking down the company at that time - I wonder if anyone can help me?
It doesnt matter. Brokers were not regulated until January 2005. So, they dont need to consider pre-regulation sale complaints. The FCA register shows Wessex Group became authorised on 14th Jan 2005.Also, GE Money sold on my mortgage to another mortgage company within 4 months of my PPI claim - I believe this is evidence they knew they were in the wrong - although I understand their right to sell on mortgage products this seems really shifty!
Be sensible. You are not that important. A lender selling on its mortgage book (of all customers) to another company has nothing to do with you personally.I am planning a Plevin complaint, but feel this other information is important to my process.
Was this for single premium PPI or regular premium? if regular premium then dont expect that to succeed either.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). All you can do is contact whoever you think you may have had finance with and ask them if you had PPI.
1986 is over three decades ago and I'd be very surprised if any institutions still have records going back that far.

I'm in the same boat. I had all my credit cards mostly from 2000 - 2010, and do not have records of anything. I know I had cards with Egg and MBNA but am sure I had a couple of others also, as I made full use of the good old 0% bank transfers!
Not hopeful of being able to claim any PPI - this is from Money.co.uk:
If it is more than six years since your PPI has expired
The institution that sold the policy to you is no longer required to keep any paperwork. You are still perfectly entitled to make a claim, but you will have to provide all evidence yourself.
If anyone knows how we could find out if we ever had any PPI, even though we have no statements or anything, please let us know!0 -

Banks do not routinely destroy data after 6 years, some may, some may just archive it off stored under account number.
Do remember if you were using BT card transfers and not spending, you may not actually have paid PPI

It took me a long time to take out credit again, 6+ years and when I did, was so careful! I'd been burnt massively before and wasn't going to let it happen again! Will have another think about what I want to do regarding this, but the suggested uphill battle is definitely what I'd anticipated.0

Has anybody else experienced the following, or could provide any advice?
I contacted Barclaycard to request the original loan agreement to check if my Shop MasterCard (Argos, who Barclaycards now handles) included PPI. I advised I requested this with 40 days or I would contact the ICO commissioner.
I hold a few letters and still had 1 or 2 statements but not the contract etc, and nothing mentions PPI.
Barclaycard have written back to me advising as I have made the request under Section 78 of the consumer credit act, and my account is no longer open, and no sum is due or will become payable that they are not obliged to provide me with the documents and information I seek.
Is there a further step that I can go to from here? And if so what would that be?

Why do you want the Agreement?
Regardless, it's not available on closed accounts (as you have now found out).
If you simply want to know if you had PPI, then ask them the question directly .0
