My friend's mother died some years ago and he would like to claim back any PPI but we're not really up to doing it ourselves right now. Would be gratetful if anyone could kindly recommend a good company we could contact to do this for us? Thanks.

You need to prove to the compan that you have the authority to complain, so the executor of the will or the holder of the grant of representation will have to complain. Ask the company what proof they want.
Do not use a claims company.
Also, as you say it was some years ago, it's probable that any paperwork has been destroyed. Also, you cannot use he said/she said reasons, so no they were told to have it, they didn't know they had it etc... your reasons must be factual, so it wasn't needed, it wouldn't pay out, there was alternative cover, good savings are factual reasons.

You might want to do a few edits there, -taff. :)

The main issue for "Alicesusan" is going to be a lack of records of a person long deceased. No Claims Management Company will be able to magic these up and anyone recommending such a firm would be breaking forum rules regarding advertising.

Hi there, my parents have made successful PPI claims and the potential possibility for more on their mortgages and a few old accounts but I fear the time to claim is running out, so I was wondering what is the best PPI service to possibly use.

Just send your complaint directly to the lenders.

If you desperately need a hand hold through it, use the free MSE resolver site but really it's far simpler just to write to any lender and ask if you had PPI and if you did, complain if you feel you were miss-sold. Mortgage PPI is very rarely miss-sold

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

Claimed from Nationwide and they were really good at keeping me informed...especially as I could not remember ANY of the details. Well they found something from 2005 and I have ended up with £454.01 (after tax). Now I'm downloading the Revenue form R40 to claw back the £50.69 tax.
Thank you Martin Lewis :T , for all your advice. Peter, 67 years young :j

We had an endowment mortgage from 1986-1994 when unfortunately we could no longer afford the payments due to massive interest rates. We left the property after trying to sell it for many months and left the keys. We were contacted about 5 years later and told that we owed them £18k which was preposterous as the house value was more than the mortgage so most of it was their 'costs' and admin fees. We were on benefits at the time and a Citizens Advice solicitor dealt with it and we did not pay anything. My question is whether we are able to claim for any PPI that we took out alongside it - I'm sure that we were told we had to have some kind of insurance. Thanks in advance :)

If you did have PPI, you need records, so either you have your own still or you hae to contact whoever you had this with to see if they have records left. it's not likely after 33 years

    1) Endowments couldnt have PPI on them
    2) MPPI is monthly premium standalone monthly direct debit (one of the reasons most MPPi complaints fail)
    3) If your complaint is successful, the lender can use the redress against any unpaid debt from the repossession.

Insurance was mandatory in 1986. You couldnt have an interest only mortgage without an endowment. You would also have been required to have their home insurance. Plus, you probably paid MIG.

PPI was not commonplace in 1986. it existed but the banks didnt really start misselling it until the early 90s.
